Position Highlights The Translational Neuroscience department at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is currently recruiting a Researcher/Scientist III to support Ebenezer Yamoah's lab. Many of our research projects are focused on auditory and vestibular physiology as it relates information processing in the young and age-related hearing loss. We are interested in understanding how these physiological and biochemical changes, resulting from genetics and environmental structural changes and their functional operation.

We use an observational and causal and direct approaches, combining monitoring and decoding of neural activity with control of defined electrical and imaging methods. The successful candidate should have training in the broad area of neuroscience, laboratory methods, executing protocols, managing lab operations and training personnel in a research setting. The candidate should also have successful experience writing and publishing scientific papers.

The position is best suited for someone who is detailed oriented, conscientious, and able to follow instructions and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing.

• Perform independent research experiments under the direction of the principal investigator.
• Design and perform experiments, interpret data, and analyze results.
• Develop new experimental approaches and laboratory protocols.
• Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals.
• Participate or authors articles in peer-reviewed journals, books or chapter publications. Participate or presents at meetings and conferences.
• May co-author and may co-present results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.

Contribute to laboratory management including:

• Maintain and service laboratory equipment.
• Laboratory purchasing and budgeting.
• Manage biosafety requirements.
• Organize laboratory and implement procedures.
• Coordinate with building/facilities management, delivery, and other key research infrastructure.
• Supervise 1-2 laboratory staff members.
• Train graduate students, undergraduate interns, and other staff.
• Regularly meet with laboratory trainees.
• Set SOPs for the laboratory.

• Excellent knowledge of laboratory and analytical skills and commitment to scientific excellence and innovation.
• Ability to develop scientific hypotheses, experimental design, and data analysis.
• Ability to write scientific manuscripts, and grant applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to communicate professionally in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
• Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.
• Ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.

• 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.

• A Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field, master's degree is preferred.
