A full‑time Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the multidisciplinary auditory neuroscience research laboratory of Dr. Bibb in the Department of Translational Neuroscience at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. Interested candidates should have a PhD (or MD, PhD) in neurobiology, biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field, and be able to conduct independent, multi‑disciplinary research experiments, author peer‑reviewed publications, and communicate findings orally and in writing.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform independent, multi‑disciplinary research experiments under the direction of Dr. Bibb.
- Develop, design, and conduct complex research projects and develop protocols.
- Collect, reduce, and analyze scientific data using routine procedures characterized by independent judgment.
- Utilize molecular biology, biochemical techniques, high‑resolution imaging, in vitro functional analyses (patch‑clamp, calcium measurements), small animal surgery, and in vivo phenotyping analyses.
- Maintain detailed records of experiments, analyze data, and write findings.
- Present results at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports.
- Assist with supervision of laboratory staff and oversee hazardous/chemical waste records and disposal as needed.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
- Strong ability to coordinate experiments, conduct analysis, statistics, and interpretation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to present findings at scientific conferences.
- Knowledge of grant writing and manuscript preparation.
- Demonstrated independent development of reports and manuscripts in various formats.
- PhD or MD/PhD in neurobiology, biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
- Expertise in stereotaxic surgery and animal behavioral assessment.
- Experience with basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques (RNA isolation, electrophoresis, western blot, RNAScope, qRT‑PCR).
- Experience with multicolor flow cytometry.
- Experience with immunofluorescence high‑resolution imaging.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and analyses.
FLSA Exempt | Full Time | 40 hours per week | 1.0 FTE | NIH salary guidelines (depends on experience)
