Overview

The Arizona Humane Society is excited to welcome a dedicated and motivated Veterinary Technician to join our Sunnyslope Veterinary Clinic team, soon to operate in a newly renovated, modern hospital opening in the coming months. This expanded space will offer a full range of medical services, from full-service medical care to high-volume spay/neuter and wellness, offering technicians the opportunity to grow their skills and work across multiple areas of the hospital.

We proudly support work-life balance with a 4 - 10 hour shift schedule, offering flexibility to work four days, Monday through Saturday. As a growing clinic, there may be occasional adjustments based on operational needs, but our commitment to balanced, predictable scheduling remains a priority. Role Overview

The Spay and Neuter Veterinary Technician plays a key role in our low-cost public clinic, supporting our veterinarians in all areas of care for owned animals in the community. Responsibilities include supporting all Spay/Neuter and Wellness operations such as surgical prep, anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, laboratory diagnostics, restraint/handling, vaccine knowledge, fluid therapy, administering prescribed medications (oral, IV, IM, SQ), client education, and maintaining clinic asepsis.

Responsibilities
  • Support Spay/Neuter and Wellness operations: surgical prep, anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, laboratory diagnostics, restraint/handling, vaccine knowledge, fluid therapy, administering prescribed medications (oral, IV, IM, SQ), client education, and maintaining clinic asepsis.
  • Administer injections (IV, IM, SQ) as directed by the Veterinarian.
  • Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, and administer fluids as needed.
  • Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and postoperative phases.
  • Administer microchips and fill prescriptions.
  • Stay current in knowledge of emergency drugs and protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with the public and all staff members.
  • Know veterinary medical concepts (vaccine protocols, anesthetic risks, etc.) and communicate this information clearly to clients.
  • Prepare home-care instructions and receipts for all services performed.
  • Fill prescriptions from veterinarian orders and provide client instructions for proper administration.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma / GED required.
  • Completion of a veterinary technician program and certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital.
  • Expertise in phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, and pharmacology required.
  • Must be proficient in anesthesiology.
  • Demonstrate commitment to spay/neuter initiatives with a positive attitude.
  • Provide excellent patient care in all perioperative phases for up to 60 cats and/or dogs per day.
  • Administer injections (IV, IM, SQ) as directed by the Veterinarian.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes;

occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air-conditioned and heated office environment. The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
