American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring EVD experience and strong neuro assessment skills in a 32‑bed unit affiliated with a world‑renowned neurological institute.
Details- Level 1 Trauma, acute care hospital setting within a 32‑bed Neuro ICU
- Unit is part of the world's largest neurological disease treatment and research institution, consistently ranked among the best neurosurgical training centers in the US
- Patient population includes critical care patients with neurological diagnoses, including craniotomies, brain tumor removals and ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
- Nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:2 in the ICU; ratio changes to 1:4 when floating to telemetry
- Phillips monitors used for telemetry; ventilator management required
- RT and pharmacy support available 24/7
- Charge nurse on unit does not take a patient assignment
- EMR:
Cerner - 12‑hour day shifts (7am–7pm)
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4‑week period
- Holiday coverage follows core staff rotation
- Travelers are first to float; floating required between all ICU floors and telemetry units
- May be placed on standby for a scheduled shift
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) required
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- EVD (External Ventricular Drain) experience required
- Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP monitoring experience required
- 3–6 months of prior travel nursing experience required
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver’s license used to verify permanent address)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
- Provide critical care nursing to neurological patients, including ICP monitoring, EVD management, and ventilator care
- Floor‑specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- All RN travelers at this campus are required to complete a SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — both are pass/fail; nurses have been released during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
- A pass/fail exam on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on Day 1 of orientation
- Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation; 2 attempts are allowed
- Scrub color:
Steel grey required for Neuro floors - Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted
- Men must be clean‑shaven to comply with fit test requirements
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full‑time, part‑time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- First‑time travelers are not eligible for this position — prior travel experience required
