THIS POSITION IS FOR NIGHT COVERAGE that will be 3 - 13-hour Night Shifts a week. The Pediatric Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team provides inpatient support for pre and post op general surgery patients. The APP team works closely with pediatric surgery fellows and surgical residents on their pediatric rotation. This position will provide overnight coverage for the pediatric general surgery and trauma teams.
The APP will follow through on plans made for patients during the day, enter orders, be the primary contact for nursing and family questions, assist with writing notes as needed, facilitate discharges, see consults and direct admissions, attend traumas as needed and admit suspected non-accidental trauma patients. The team is growing and evolving; job responsibilities and hours may change with growth and resident coverage.
The ideal candidate will be an acute care trained provider with emphasis on pediatrics or experience with inpatient pediatric populations. Prior inpatient pediatric experience is required. We are looking for someone who is detail oriented, flexible, has good communication and interpersonal skills, and is interested in contributing to a growing Pediatric Surgery APP team. This position requires a PNP-AC or PA-C.
This position works in collaboration with attending physicians and within their scope of practice to provide clinical care for patients. The role may be in hospital inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
Position Duties- Conducts comprehensive health history, physical assessments and plans for infants, children and young adults with acute and chronic health conditions. Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients.
- Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions; performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
- Formulates family centered plans of care; performs daily documentation as necessary; collaborates and coordinates care with other team members.
- Collects data and analyzes when necessary.
- Performs needed advanced procedures associated with credentialing process (DOP).
- Utilizes up-to-date, evidence-based practice for plan of care and adjusts the plan according to family needs and effectiveness.
- Serves as an educational resource to patients, families, nursing staff, provider team and other health care teams as needed.
- Participates in professional development by maintaining required competencies, renewals, seeking educational offerings, and mentoring Advanced Practice Providers, Residents and Medical Students.
- Demonstrates commitment to patient safety by raising concerns through appropriate channels and ensuring changes in practice when necessary.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.
