Overview

Banner Surgery Center - University prides itself on its legacy as the first outpatient surgery center in the United States. Located at McDowell and 12th St in Phoenix, part of University Medical Center, the center offers exceptional care and outstanding customer service to patients and physicians in the heart of Phoenix. This multispecialty ASC currently specializes in 11 areas and offers seven operating rooms and one procedure room.

Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. The position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction and utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Functions
  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and completes assessments within the appropriate timeframe. Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members. Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers. Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
  • Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and input from the patient, family and health team. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs and medical plan of care. Sets realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient/family. Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific and educational needs. Plans care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and revises the plan based on evaluation of the patient’s status.
  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Promotes continuity of care by communicating status of patients clearly to other caregivers.
  • Evaluates the patient"s and family"s response to care and teaching, revises the plan of care as needed, and evaluates progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy, reflecting objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient responses. Notes physician orders accurately and timely.
  • Provides care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in department or facility shared leadership and contributes to education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  • Contributes to outcomes through activities that lead to excellent patient care, including participation in professional organizations and improvement of nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
  • In some locations, may provide relief charge for staff and department workflow.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
  • Provides all customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating core and leadership behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required.
  • Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • BLS and ACLS required.
  • * PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned ASC services pediatrics.
  • Core (FT/PT):
    Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in OR (other procedural areas considered with Support Center Clinical Educator approval). Licensed RN with no OR experience and enrolled in Peri Op
    101 program with successful completion within 4 months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required.
