XAPP position primarily responsible for the Inpatient Oncology and Hematology patient population. Provider will alternate patient care on inpatient Leukemia, Solid Tumor, and Hematology services and may rotate to outpatient Hematology or Oncology patient care for those with Primary Care PNP/FNP or PA-C certification.
Inpatient duties include: obtaining history and physical, rounding with the inpatient team, documenting in the EMR, ordering and managing chemotherapy and medications, assist with admission and protocol orders, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, performing procedures such as bone marrow aspiration/biopsy and lumbar puncture, supporting fertility preservation and research protocols, coordinating multidisciplinary care, providing patient and family education, mentoring staff, and participating in nursing education.
The position includes rotating weekend and holiday coverage and participation in quality or research projects. Prior Hematology or Oncology experience is desirable, but a Family Practice or Primary Care degree is acceptable.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive health history and physical assessment for pediatric patients.
- Order and prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatments, including chemotherapy regimens.
- Perform advanced procedures such as bone marrow aspiration/biopsy and lumbar puncture.
- Support fertility preservation and research protocols.
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team—nursing, residents, fellows, pharmacy, social work, and specialty consultants.
- Document care in the Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) accurately and promptly.
- Provide patient and family education on diagnosis, treatment, and self‑care.
- Mentor and pre‑ccept new staff and students as appropriate.
- Participate in nursing education and professional development activities.
- Provide coverage for weekend and holiday shifts as required.
Education
- Master’s or Doctorate degree from an ACEN and/or CCNE accredited graduate school of nursing in Pediatric Acute Care, Pediatric Primary Care, or Family Medicine.
- OR Master’s degree from an ARC‑PA program.
Special Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer literacy for EMR use.
Additional Requirements
- Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association) required prior to start date.
- Current State of Arizona certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required prior to start date.
- National board certification in the area of education or maintenance of NCCPA certificate.
- Requires constant use of fine motor skills, hearing, and visual acuity.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, pushing/pulling, reaching, and sometimes stooping/crouching.
- Requires lifting up to 35 lbs frequently and occasionally more than 35 lbs.
- Work environment includes exposure to blood borne pathogens, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials.
