Read Better Be Better’s mission is to connect young readers and youth leaders to inspire a love of literacy and leadership.

Read Better Be Better (RBBB) is an education nonprofit focused on solving Arizona’s literacy crisis. We work with partnering school districts throughout Phoenix to connect 3rd‑grade readers and middle school leaders to inspire a love of literacy and leadership. Since 2014, we have served thousands of Phoenix‑area students with our after‑school program in over 70 schools, as well as community‑based programming across the state.

Each school semester, we have expanded to serve more students, schools, and families. We are a mission‑driven, collaborative community of passionate, creative, growth‑minded professionals, and we welcome those seeking to contribute their work experience and skillset to making a positive impact on the education system in Arizona.

A Day as RBBB's Development Manager

The Development Manager oversees, coordinates and executes various aspects of development projects to help maintain and grow RBBB’s funding streams through individual donations and foundational support. They are a key contributor in the execution of strategic plans, ensuring that projects align with fundraising objectives and are completed within predetermined timelines. This role works closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure smooth project progression from inception to delivery.

The role primarily works in the Read Better Be Better office, collaborating in meetings, attending external events and meetings offsite. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assume full responsibility for various fundraising efforts (individual and institutional).
  • Oversee the entirety of the grants process from start to finish, tracking all metrics and partnering with cross‑functional team members, such as grant writers.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders; communicate with organizations and donors through email, calls, and meetings.
  • Research and identify prospective new donors/grants and proactively initiate sponsorship and funding.
  • Responsible for timely processing and acknowledging all contributions in a timely manner.
  • Effectively convey a clear narrative utilizing RBBB's data and demonstrating the need for targeted literacy programming in Arizona.
  • Coordinate all aspects of fundraising events and activities planning to execution.
  • Ensure donor database is maintained; conduct audits.
  • Track, monitor and report on progress and key metrics.

What you need to qualify
  • 3+ years of non‑profit experience working in fundraising or project organization
  • Experience with donor database (Salesforce a plus!), fund management & grant writing
  • Demonstrated experience communicating to a variety of audiences
  • Outstanding administrative and organization skills that reflect a customer service focus
  • Strong writer; professional written and interpersonal skills; adaptability
  • Must be able to travel to various locations in the Greater Phoenix area
  • Must have the ability and willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends
