Description
Purpose and ScopeTo support the Diocese of Phoenix in its mission of Encountering the Living Christ, this position advances both financial sustainability and diocesan-wide volunteer engagement. This position works collaboratively with the Bishop’s Office, the Office of Mission Advancement, diocesan departments, ministries, and parish leadership to identify, secure, manage, and steward grant funding while strengthening systems and processes that support volunteer engagement across the Diocese.
This role is intentionally structured with dual responsibility across two strategic functions:
1. Grant research, writing, management, and compliance; and
2. Volunteer engagement coordination and platform management, ensuring a consistent, mission-centered experience for volunteers
The position ensures that both financial and human capital are responsibly secured, stewarded, and aligned in service of the Diocese’s pastoral, spiritual, and social mission.

Grant Research, Writing, and Management (75%)- Identify, research, and evaluate grant funding opportunities aligned with diocesan priorities, initiatives, and ministry needs, remaining current on funding trends, eligibility requirements, and regulatory changes.
- Develop, write, and submit high-quality grant proposals that meet foundation, corporate, and government funder guidelines and advance diocesan priorities.
- Manage the full grant lifecycle for diocesan departments and ministries including applications, budgets, timelines, documentation, internal approvals, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all grant terms, conditions, and reporting requirements, in coordination with diocesan finance and program staff.
- Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with grantors and program officers to support long-term funding partnerships.
- Prepare timely and accurate grant reports for funders and diocesan leadership, communicating outcomes, impact, and lessons learned.
- Provide consultation, training, and collaborative support to diocesan ministries and parishes seeking grant funding, including proposal development and grant readiness support.
- Facilitate diocesan volunteer engagement efforts by serving as a primary point of contact and liaison for volunteers and internal stakeholders.
- Manage and maintain the Diocese of Phoenix volunteer engagement platform, including opportunity postings, user access, activity monitoring, reporting, and coordination of updates or enhancements.
- Coordinate volunteer onboarding, tracking, recognition, and acknowledgment in collaboration with diocesan teams.
- Provide administrative and logistical coordination for volunteer initiatives, including scheduling, documentation, recordkeeping, and volunteer-related events or meetings.
- Collaborate with diocesan departments to assess volunteer needs, align opportunities with mission priorities, and promote effective volunteer utilization.
- Contribute to the development of best practices, tools, and communication materials to strengthen volunteer recruitment, participation, and retention.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Strong knowledge of, and commitment to the Catholic faith and mission of the Diocese of Phoenix.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local grant regulations and compliance procedures.
- Proficiency in grant research, proposal development, budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
- Ability to support and guide users in volunteer engagement platforms through clear communication, training, and troubleshooting; experience with Golden preferred.
- Highly organized, proactive, adaptable, and capable of working independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Adaptable and resourceful, with the ability to learn new grant programs, volunteer platforms, and regulations quickly.
