The Company APEL Extrusions, Inc. is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions, with six extrusion presses and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing approximately 300 people. With facilities in Calgary Canada, Coburg Oregon, and Phoenix Arizona, APEL serves the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States.

Job Summary The Plant Manager has direct responsibility to safely lead and to manage all operational aspects of the Phoenix facility including extrusion, anodizing, paint, fabrication, maintenance, shipping and purchasing. With responsibility for more than 100 employees working around the clock the Plant Manager ensures all workers are safe and productive in manufacturing quality products on time and on budget. Reports to VP of Operations.

• Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for Operations ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity are monitored and improved as required.
• Act as the principal point of contact for APEL Phoenix Operations working collaboratively with all departments to develop and execute manufacturing strategies that optimize operations and deliver bottom line results.
• Assist in developing APEL’s technical and operating capabilities through a suitably developed and administered training and development program.
• Monitor all operations for safety, environmental, and housekeeping concerns and ensure action is taken to protect the health and welfare of our employees and our environment.
• Work with Department Managers to ensure appropriate scheduling and availability of resources such that customer requirements are continuously met.
• Ensure that all elements of the APEL’s Quality Management System are being followed.
• Assist in the development and execution of operating and capital budgets.
• Work with technical team to conceptualize, develop, test, and implement cutting edge technology in APEL’s Operations.
• Ensures APEL remains compliant in all OHSA, Environmental and compliance related issues.
• Work with the President, Vice President and the APEL Sales Team to proactively prepare operations for growth.
• Participate as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team providing wisdom, insight, and a commitment to collaborate, communicate & coordinate APEL strategy to the Phoenix Team.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or other relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 10 years managerial experience in a manufacturing / plant environment.
• Preferred
  • Experience in extrusion and extrusion finishing processes.
  • MBA / MS advanced degree.

• A proven record of senior management success in a fast paced, customer focused, manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with business compliance requirements.
• The ability to develop strong teams and relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, customers, and other key business partners.
• Experience in strategic planning and optimization of resources, plant expansions, upgrades, and renovations.
• Experience in managing safety, quality, productivity, and cost in a capital-intensive operation.
• Experience and training in Lean and Six Sigma concepts.
• A proven ability to Lead, to Collaborate and to Execute.
• Professional communication skills.
