What We’re Looking For:The Electrical Assembler / Commissioning Lead is responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting electrical and electromechanical systems used in HVAC manufacturing equipment. This role combines hands‑on electrical assembly with commissioning leadership to ensure systems are built according to specifications and function correctly during testing and startup.
The position requires interpreting electrical schematics, assembling and wiring control and power panels, performing electrical testing, programming system controllers, and diagnosing electrical and operational issues. The role also supports commissioning activities, provides technical guidance to technicians, and acts as a bridge between production, engineering, and external control system partners to ensure quality and efficiency throughout the manufacturing and commissioning process.
This hire will be required to travel to Montreal, Canada for approximately 4 weeks of training, provided by Smardt.
What You’ll Do:Electrical Assembly
- Assemble and install electronic and electromechanical components according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Install electrical control panels and power panels by following electrical schematics and manufacturing procedures.
- Perform panel mounting and internal/external wiring of electrical assemblies.
- Layout and wire electrical assemblies in accordance with electrical schematics and diagrams.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Prepare and organize electrical components prior to assembly.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and other assembly equipment safely and effectively.
- Handle and install electrical cables ranging from 2 AWG to 4/0 AWG DLO cable.
- Disassemble units when required to repair defects and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions prior to final packaging.
- Assemble, evaluate, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, and apparatus.
- Perform commissioning and functional testing of electrical and electronic systems.
- Conduct Hi‑pot testing of power cables and electrical systems.
- Test solid‑state circuitry to identify defective analog and digital components and replace faulty parts.
- Program and configure compressors and controllers.
- Troubleshoot electrical and operational issues and determine root causes of failures.
- Install system improvements and upgrades to electrical subsystems when required.
- Ensure completion of preventive and protective maintenance activities.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of electrical assembly or related experience.
- Experience in HVAC manufacturing or industrial equipment manufacturing is considered an asset.
- Experience with electrical testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of equipment.
- Electrical Certificate, Electrical Technician, or related technical training preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals and circuitry.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Experience with electrical assembly, panel wiring, and control systems.
- Familiarity with controller programming is an asset.
- Experience performing electrical testing including Hi‑pot testing and circuit diagnostics.
- Strong attention to detail and precision.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
- Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
