Purchasing & Inventory Control Specialist

The Purchasing & Inventory Control Specialist manages procurement of steel, components, hardware, and consumables to support the operation, while monitoring cost of materials purchased and overall spend against budget expectations. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to multi task. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to coordinate closely with production needs, manage the delivery of components manufactured and purchased in a timely manner against tight deadlines, monitor inventory levels to optimize ordering patterns, and assist in maintaining CAD file library.

• Source and purchase steel pipe and tubing, plate, anchor bolts, hardware, and fabrication materials as required.
• Maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and on-time delivery.
• Request and analyze quotes, negotiate pricing, and issue purchase orders within ERP System in alignment with production schedules.
• Monitor supplier performance and resolve delivery, quality, or invoicing discrepancies.
• Coordinate lead times and ordering cycles for components based upon production scheduling need.
• Monitor internal component inventory and work with production manager to schedule JIT fabrication of components.

• Maintain accurate purchasing, receiving, and inventory records within the ERP system.
• Validate correct pricing for components against BOM costs in system.
• Ensure all material transactions follow established procedures for traceability and audit compliance, including MRT and SDS for purchased items.
• Understand, create, and maintain CAD drawings for use in maintaining internally manufactured components.

• Maintain accurate inventory levels for raw materials, components purchased, components manufactured, and supplies.
• Oversee receiving processes, ensuring materials are properly labeled, stored, and entered into the ERP system.
• Implement inventory optimization strategies to reduce shortages, overstock, and carrying costs, while maintaining competitive buying practices.

• 3+ years of purchasing or inventory control experience.
• Experience with Computer Aided Drawing and ability to read technical drawings.
• Experience with ERP systems (manufacturing and procurement modules preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and vendor management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (formerly Microsoft Office) applications required.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with a commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment.
