Position: Operator 12 Entry - Phoenix

Operator – Pipeline Equipment

Primary purpose:
To safely, efficiently and according to standard operational procedures operate pipeline equipment and pump station/terminal facilities for delivery of refined petroleum products into tankage for temporary storage, involving the operation of both local and remote pumps.

Responsibilities
  • Operate pipeline and pump facilities as directed by Products Movement.
  • Oversee all activities on an assigned shift and assist in training and providing direction and assistance to other operators.
  • Monitor pipeline product quality hourly using appropriate equipment.
  • Accurately type and check meter tickets for products and prepare bill of ladings.
  • Communicate equipment abnormalities, failures, operating inconsistencies, errors and/or product quality issues to management in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Provide accurate, legible and timely input to stream sheets, O/S log and any other required log sheets.
  • Maintain an inquisitive attitude, ask questions and ensure operational procedures are adhered to.
  • Serve as the liaison between field operations and scheduling, product accounting, engineering and regional personnel.
  • Monitors loading rack operations at terminals which are driver operated.
  • Must be fully knowledgeable about all aspects of the facility, including all lines, block valves, remote locations, facilities and equipment.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing batch changes.
  • Starts and stops pumps as required.
  • Consistently protect the integrity of customers’ product quality and quantity.
  • On a limited basis may perform line rider duties such as monitoring pipeline ROW for 3rd party encroachments, inspecting pipelines, locating and marking pipelines and/or other duties associated with securing and maintaining the integrity of the pipelines and protecting from 3rd party damage.
  • Perform general facility upkeep and maintenance, including painting, sweeping, washing and other general housekeeping duties.
  • Consistently maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Participate in special projects and other assignments as requested by management.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Basic office and/or administrative experience including handling phones, completing paperwork and typing.

Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel and Word; knowledge of PowerPoint and Access a plus.

Must pass and maintain all applicable Operator Qualification requirements.

Operator Level Requirements
  • Operator 12 Entry Level – New hire – Works under close supervision; must learn the basics and pass required Operator Qualifications within an acceptable time frame.
  • Operator 12 Level 1 – Has passed Operator Qualifications and can perform basic job duties without supervision.
  • Operator 12 Level 2 – At least one year performing satisfactorily at Level 1 or has equivalent experience; can consistently perform all job duties.
  • Operator 12 Level 3 – At least one year performing satisfactorily at Level 2 or has equivalent experience; can work with minimal direction and has demonstrated sound judgment.
  • Operator 12 Level 4 – At least two years performing satisfactorily at Level 3 or equivalent experience; provides self direction and has shown continuous improvement.
  • Operator 12 Level 5 – At least three years performing satisfactorily at Level 4; considered a subject matter expert and provides independent work.
Certifications and Licenses
  • A current, valid State driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card if applicable.
  • Must be able to use all tank gauging, truck loading, SCADA and teletype programs.
Physical Demands
  • Perform physical labor in a variety of extreme climatic conditions.
  • Lifting, climbing tanks, digging and general manual labor.
  • Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities.
  • 12 hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays; position subject to 24‑hour call‑out.
