About This Position

The Street Transportation Department operates and maintains the city’s nearly 5,000 miles of existing streets and manages the planning, design, and construction of new streets—including multi‑modal infrastructure. The department’s resources include a staff of over 600 full‑time employees, an annual operating budget of $109 million, and a five‑year Capital Improvement Program of $860 million. The department is comprised of four divisions:
Management Services, Design and Construction Management, Street Maintenance, and Traffic Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and lead the Utility Coordination and Utility Inspections divisions.
  • Establish and lead private and public utility coordination efforts with internal and external clients to advance the city’s infrastructure growth through deployment of utility services and technology.
  • Advise and provide oversight on technical documents, standards, and practices for implementation.
  • Supervise section leads responsible for oversight of work groups providing utility plan reviews and inspections for all dry utilities, industrial gas, and wireless sites within the right‑of‑way and public utility easements.
  • Lead and oversee negotiations of licenses and agreements with utility companies; work with the city’s legal staff on proposed legislation, laws, and city code.
  • Oversee two accountant positions responsible for all utility invoicing, billing, and account reconciliations.
  • Provide coordination and advisement with local utility providers.
  • Lead coordination efforts with other local agencies and government entities.
  • Advise on department policies and guidelines.
  • Perform project manager oversight on special projects assigned.
  • Coordinate with senior management of other city departments on implementation of adopted codes, ordinances, and legislative actions.

This position exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment and works under the general supervision of the Street Transportation Deputy Director.

Salary

Hiring Range and Pay Range: $ to $ annually.

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you may receive an offer. The actual salary offer will consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • The city contributes 9% of salary into 457/401(a) plans with no matching required. $4,200 annual car allowance and $1,440 annual cell phone allowance.
