The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, financial reporting, job cost analysis, and cash flow management. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in construction accounting, WIP reporting, margin analysis, and credit management.
This is anin-office role based in Phoenix, Arizona.
Key Responsibilities- Process Improvement: Analyze and reform current accounting processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with GAAP.
- Leadership: Direct and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring that processes are easier to follow and adhere to best practices.
- Job Costing & Commission Calculation: Utilize in-depth knowledge of job costing and commission calculations to manage and optimize these financial aspects.
- Warehouse Inventory Systems: Leverage experience with warehouse inventory systems to oversee and improve inventory management and reporting.
- Financial Reporting & Forecasting: Develop and deliver timely accurate financial reports, forecasts, and Power BI reports to support strategic decision-making.
- System Familiarity: Get hands‑on with all relevant systems to fully understand and enhance the accounting processes and tools used within the company.
- Initial Commitment: Expect to work longer hours initially to thoroughly learn all facets of the company and set the foundation for long‑term success.
- Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes
- Prepare and analyze financial statements
- Maintain strong internal controls
- Oversee AR, AP, payroll, and general ledger functions
- Manage job cost tracking across multiple projects
- Maintain WIP schedules and revenue recognition accuracy
- Monitor gross margin by project and identify risk areas
- Partner with operations to protect profitability
- Forecast cash flow and working capital needs
- Manage vendor terms and payment strategy
- Develop KPI dashboards and reporting tools
- Provide financial insight to executive leadership
- Improve processes between accounting, sales, and operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of accounting leadership experience
- Strong background in construction accounting required
- Experience with job costing and WIP reporting
- ERP or accounting system management experience
- High integrity, strong attention to detail, and proactive mindset
- Ability to work on-site in Phoenix, Arizona
- CPA preferred but not required.
