* POSITION SUMMARY:
** The Director of EHS Programs & Training is a strategic leader responsible for developing and implementing enterprise-wide environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs and training initiatives at Republic Services. The incumbent drives consistency, innovation, and measurable impact across the organization by fostering a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing operational excellence. The Director of EHS Programs & Training collaborates cross-functionally with operations leadership, HR, safety champions, and field staff to ensure seamless program execution.
** PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
*** Shape and implement EHS strategies that align with the corporate values, vision, and sustainability goals. Lead the EHS team and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
* Monitors and translates federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT) to ensure policy compliance and develop actionable training and controls. Maintain documentation and training records to support audits and compliance.
* Design, standardize, and implement scalable, risk-based EHS programs that align with operational and regulatory requirements, covering key areas such as safety, compliance, risk, hazardous materials, and emergency response. Partner with L&D and Communications to ensure messaging and delivery align with branding and culture standards.
* Leads investigations of major incidents, ensuring root cause analysis, regulatory-compliant reporting, and timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
* Serves as a key liaison between corporate and field teams to integrate EHS programs into operational workflows and long-term planning. Drives transformation by fostering a culture of safety through proactive leadership engagement, cross-functional collaboration, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement and accountability.
* Drive EHS innovation by benchmarking best practices, piloting new programs, implementing new technology, and enhancing training accessibility and engagement across a dispersed workforce.
* Create and manage the EHS Programs and Training budget to ensure cost-effective use of resources for equipment, training, and audits that support EHS strategic goals.
* Coaches and develops a team of professionals to assist in their development and attainment of necessary skills to lift performance. Monitors staff performance and drives performance improvement initiatives and ensures that service levels meet or exceed agreed upon standards.
* Performs other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.

* QUALIFICATIONS:
*** Stategic thinker with strong execution and field engagement capabilities.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
* Proficient in EHS and learning management systems (e.g., Enablon, Intelex).
* Strong project management and analytical skills.
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Heath & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related field - preferred.
* Master's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Heath & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related field - preferred.
* Certified Environmental Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) - preferred.

* MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
*** 10+ years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety roles.
* 5+ years of leadership experience.
* Proven experience with EHS regulations and compliance in complex, multi-site environments with a background in adult learning, training development, and EHS systems implementation.
