In the role of Regional Education and Science Director, you will shape the future of HDR’s Education and Science sector in the Southwest Region, driving new business and strengthening our reputation.
Responsibilities- Lead Business Development Strategy in conjunction with local Education and Science principals.
- Drive development of business strategies by defining key priorities and identifying target clients at regional and local levels.
- Identify and develop strategic partnerships within or outside the industry.
- Define and implement sector business development priorities, focusing on research, market and competitor trend analysis, predictive analytics, and network building.
- Lead pre‑marketing and pursuits processes, coaching pursuit teams, preparing client capture plans and proposals.
- Participate in reviews for GNG, fee strategies and alternative delivery projects.
- Lead analysis of RFQs/RFPs, develop written proposals, and oversee creation of qualification packages.
- Lead development of interview presentation strategies and messaging.
- Manage Education and Science sector goals, including annual market sector planning.
- Nurture client relationships with key facilities, systems, and institutions.
- Represent and advance the firm in local, regional, and national communities.
- Implement Education and Science initiatives in collaboration with other sector leaders.
- Assist with strategy for communications planning, media relationships, social media, design awards, and website.
- Drive sector growth, including talent recruiting and practice performance assessment.
- Mentor, advise, and nurture leaders within each office.
- Coach existing employees to increase performance and effectiveness of the practice.
- Assist and support onboarding of new staff.
- Manage successful project delivery, leading projects as Principal‑in‑Charge when appropriate.
- Provide insights and guidance to teams on projects.
- Professional degree in architecture, interior design, or related field.
- Professional registration.
- At least two years of management experience in A/E/C industry.
- Knowledge of local and regional education and science market.
- Forward‑thinking with big‑picture mentality.
- Experience developing and executing targeted market and client strategies.
- Capable of leading a team and making client presentations.
- Business development experience in education and science design industry.
- Team‑oriented with strong leadership and project management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willing to travel.
- Advanced credentials such as ACHA, LEED, EDAC, etc.
- Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
- Experience managing strategic marketing programs for A/E/P services.
- Experience managing a wide range of client relationships and project pursuits.
- Experience in staff development, recruiting, career pathing, and professional growth.
- Experience with industry associations and maintaining a visible market profile.
- Ability to work cooperatively with senior and cross‑functional leaders.
- Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and active participation in employee‑owned culture.

Anticipated salary range: $190,000 – $240,000.
