The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 Trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 189 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes, and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.
The Parks and Recreation Equipment Operator III will safely and efficiently operate various specialized equipment in the Forestry section of Special Operations in the Parks and Recreation Department. The work requires considerable skill in manipulating heavy equipment in close proximity to traffic, pedestrians, and obstacles. Equipment operated includes rear loaders, articulated loaders, backhoes, brush/dump trucks, 2,000- and 3,000-gallon water trucks, knuckle boom hoists, stump grinders, aerial lift trucks, and various power and hand tools.
Transporting heavy equipment safely by trailer is imperative.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
* Ability to inspect and check vehicles before use in order to ensure safe operating conditions.
* Ability to maintain equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance tasks.
* Ability to make sound decisions about equipment operation based on fundamental knowledge of automotive mechanics.
SALARY
Pay Range: $23.74 - $35.08 per hour.
Hiring Range: $23.74 - $30.31 per hour.

Please understand that this is pay grade 143. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.

* Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
* When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* (1) Completion of a departmental training course for the same or related type of equipment used by Equipment Operators III in the specific division
* OR (2) be qualified for "out-of-class" pay as an Equipment Operator III
* OR (3) log 120 hours on the same or related type of equipment used by Equipment Operators III in the specific division
* OR (4) have a minimum of two years of experience operating commercial equipment over two tons, on the same or related type of equipment used by Equipment Operators III in the specific division.
* Possess a Class A Commercial Driver License with a Tanker (N) endorsement at time of application.
As a condition of continued employment, employees in CDL positions will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing, as required by law.
* Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
* All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
* Working irregular hours, second, and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
* Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
* Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust; and walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
