Essential Job Functions
The General Maintenance Worker manages work orders in a timely and efficient manner; completes hands-on technical maintenance projects; conducts various routine inspections; troubleshoots; performs preventative maintenance; performs various types of maintenance tasks; works closely with the Pastor’s office, School Principal, administrative staff of both the parish and school, school faculty, ministries, vendors, contractors, and the Diocese of Phoenix Buildings and Property Office, as well as the property insurance provider.
The General Maintenance Worker assists with special event set-ups and break-downs and moves and arranges furniture and equipment as needed. He/she collaborates as a member of the Maintenance Team to form and execute a cohesive approach to facility maintenance for the whole parish.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Conducts routine inspections of facilities, machines, structures, building systems (e.g., ventilation), and equipment. Reports needed maintenance to supervisor.
- Checks functionality of safety systems (e.g., fire and security)
- Troubleshoots and repairs facilities, machines, structures, building systems, and equipment as necessary
- Accurately and efficiently performs preventative maintenance
- Conducts maintenance tasks, including electrical repair of light circuit switches, outlets, ballasts, and bulb replacement. Minor repairs of HVAC systems and filter replacement. Minor plumbing repairs of faucets, toilets, and bathroom fixtures. Repair of drywall and wall coverings. Repair, assembly, and installation of office and classroom furnishings. Repair of door and gate security hardware. Repair of landscaping irrigation systems.
- Install appliances
- Works closely with parish and school staff, as well as ministries, on event set up’s
- Collaborates with workers, contractors, and Diocesan professionals on contracted jobs, renovations, and building projects
- Completes assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
- Serves as backup to supervisor and other maintenance staff
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations
- Serves as low-level security
- Help with event traffic control
- Perform other related duties and activities as required
- Skilled in the use of basic hand and power tools
- Ability to service machines and equipment and remove/replace defective parts
- Ability to read blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary
- Basic knowledge in electrical and plumbing
- Experience with precision measuring instruments and electronic testing devices
- Experience performing routine maintenance
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Excellent communications skills
- Must be self-reliant
- Attention to detail is a must
- Professional presentation and attitude
- Ability to maintain focus while working individually
- Able to climb ladders and use powered industrial lift equipment
- Ability to kneel for long periods of time
- Ability to walk most of the shift
- Able to operate a powered forklift
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds
- Not afraid of heights or confined work spaces
- Ability to perform physical duties in all weather conditions, including temperatures of 100º plus
- Adheres to OSHA safety procedures for self and others
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings
- Computer and electronic control systems knowledge
- Ability to use small gas-powered equipment
- Proven maintenance experience
- High school diploma or GED
- A related degree from a technical college is a plus but not required
- Three or more years of hands-on general maintenance experience, including woodworking, plumbing, electrical, drywall repair, and painting
- Possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License
- Maintain annual Safe Environment Training Certification
