Overview
Grand Canyon University is seeking a University Counsel to provide legal advice on a wide array of business, regulatory, and litigation issues.
Assists the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel with legal and regulatory issues and provides legal advice on a wide array of business issues to Senior Leadership, Administrative Officers, Academic Deans, Faculty, and Staff, on legal matters involving or affecting the University and its divisions.
Compliance Obligation:
All GCU employees are responsible for knowing and complying with the applicable constitution, bylaws, laws, policies, rules, regulations, and/or enforcement structures of and governing the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and of the Western Athletic Conference, especially if this role is in frequent interaction with student athletes.
Provide legal services to meet the strategic objectives of GCU while actively managing legal issues to minimize risk to GCU, including through regular contact with outside counsel.
Assist with a multitude of legal issues impacting GCU, including drafting and review of various legal documents, regulatory compliance, licensing and accreditation, nonprofit compliance, corporate governance, litigation and risk management matters.
Assist with the timely review and resolution of inquiries, claims, and complaints, including those ranging from complaints received from students to requests for information from accreditors and government regulators.
Ensure that compliance procedures, legal policies and documentation are in place to support GCU from legal, financial, and regulatory perspectives.
Juris Doctor or LL.B. from an accredited institution with an excellent academic record.
Licensed to practice law in the state of Arizona, Bar admission and in good standing.
Minimum 5 years’ in-house legal experience including substantial experience working in contracts, litigation management, employment law, and governance.
Provide a positive example to students by supporting the GCU’s Mission Statement, Doctrinal Statement, and Ethical Position Statements.
Prior experience in a highly regulated industry such as post-secondary education.
