ABOUT THIS POSITION
Recognized on the Forbes list of America's Best-In-State Employers for the past two years, the City of Phoenix strives to be an employer of choice. The Information Technology Services Department (ITS) provides enterprise-wide IT and supports departments' business solutions. Our business is in the City of Phoenix, which means the work our IT professionals do helps to improve lives of residents, businesses, and visitors to Phoenix!
The Enterprise Infrastructure Services is seeking a seasoned engineer who thrives on technical complexity and has a "security-first" mindset. You don't just fix problems; you identify the root cause and automate the solution to prevent recurrence.
As a Lead VMware/Windows Server Administrator, Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will serve as a technical pillar for our enterprise infrastructure team. This role is not just about maintenance; it's about architecture, securing, and evolving a complex hybrid environment. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of our server infrastructure from the physical Cisco UCS hardware layer to the VMware VCF software-defined data center (SDDC) stack, up through the Windows OS and cloud integrations.
As a SME, you will be expected to execute the following core duties:
* Infrastructure Orchestration:
Design, implement, and maintain the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environment, ensuring seamless integration between compute, storage, and network virtualization.
* Hardware Lifecycle Management:
Oversee the Cisco UCS ecosystem, including the configuration of service profiles, firmware updates, and hardware troubleshooting.
* Enterprise Patching & Compliance:
Develop and execute automated patching schedules for Windows Server fleets to mitigate vulnerabilities while ensuring uptime.
* Identity & Security:
Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of SSL/TLS certificates and oversee Active Directory/GPO configurations to maintain a hardened environment.
* Hybrid Cloud Governance:
Manage and optimize virtualized workloads across on-premises data centers and public cloud providers, ensuring consistent performance and cost-efficiency.
* Escalation Support:
Act as the final point of escalation for complex Windows and VMware performance issues, conducting deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA).
IDEAL CANDIDATE
* Ability to analyze the complex procedures and provide feedback for improvements.
* Must have a proactive mindset in identifying potential issues and implementing solutions before they escalate.
* Ability to handle high-pressure situations and adapt to rapidly changing environments.
* Deep Technical Breadth:
Holistic understanding of how compute, storage, and networking converge.
* Automation Advocate:
You believe manual tasks are bugs; you use scripting to ensure consistency.
* Meticulous Documenter:
You recognize that SME-level knowledge is only valuable if it is shared and documented.
