Early-Stage AI Platform | Full-Time Preferred – Contract Considered | Remote (US ONLY)

About Field 9

Field 9 is an early-stage AI company building a secure, scalable platform that transforms how healthcare professionals document patient encounters.

We are past the idea stage. We have a working prototype, real-world validation, and a committed EHR integration partner.
Our target is production integration within six months. We are now hiring the engineer who will build the product that clinicians interact with every day.
This role is foundational. The application you build will define how real users experience this platform for years.

The Platform

Our system captures clinical sessions through wearable devices, processes them using managed foundation models (Vertex AI/Gemini), and produces structured clinical documentation that integrates directly with Electronic Health Record systems.

The infrastructure and AI pipeline are being architected separately. Your focus is the application layer: the interfaces, APIs, data flows, and integrations that turn AI outputs into something clinicians actually use and trust.

This platform must ultimately serve thousands of clinicians processing millions of sessions. That means building for reliability, usability, and seamless integration from day one.

Responsibilities

You will own the full-stack application layer on GCP. This includes:

  • Designing and building the web application clinicians use daily (React/Next.js frontend, Node.js or Python backend)
  • Architecting clean, scalable APIs that connect session capture, AI processing, and clinical output delivery
  • Building the EHR integration pipeline (starting with Passage Health) using HL7/FHIR standards
  • Designing structured data models and schema versioning for clinical outputs
  • Implementing authentication, role-based access, and HIPAA-compliant data handling at the application level
  • Building real-time and asynchronous workflows that keep clinicians informed throughout session processing
  • Creating a frontend experience that is fast, intuitive, and built for clinical workflows
  • Designing cost-aware, scalable application architecture on GCP services (Cloud Run, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub)

You will build the product within clear architectural guardrails and in close coordination with the infrastructure team.

How We Work

We’re early-stage, which means two things:
1) We move fast.
2) We care about building it right.

We brainstorm hard. We debate ideas. We whiteboard. We challenge each other. We change direction quickly when we learn something new. And then we lock in and execute.

We value thoughtful debate and clear reasoning. Bring your perspective. Challenge assumptions. If you see a better path, say it. We’re open to better logic, better evidence, and better arguments. Strong opinions are welcome — as long as they’re grounded in substance and open to refinement.

If the reasoning holds, we pivot. If the data changes, we adapt. We operate on a simple principle: disagree, then commit. Once a direction is chosen, we move with focus and intensity. No lingering resistance. No passive drag. We align and execute.

We’re building something ambitious, and we genuinely enjoy the process — the exploration, the iteration, the breakthroughs, the moments when a clean product decision unlocks speed and clarity for real users. We think big, we move fast, and when it’s time to deliver, we deliver.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who has:

  • Built production full-stack applications from scratch on GCP
  • Owned frontend and backend architecture decisions end-to-end
  • Integrated with third-party systems using healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) or similar structured APIs
  • Connected AI/ML services into user-facing product experiences
  • Built systems within regulated or security-sensitive environments
  • You should think in products, not features.
Structure

We prefer full-time or consider structured contracts (20–40 hours/week). The engagement begins with a defined 90-day build phase with milestone-based evaluation. For the right person, this role can evolve into long-term product engineering leadership.

Application

Please send:

  • A production application you built from zero — ideally full-stack with a real user base.
  • A brief explanation of how you would design a clinician-facing application on GCP that integrates AI-generated outputs with EHR systems.
  • Your availability (full-time or contract).

Concise responses are appreciated.

If you build products that are fast, intuitive, and don’t break under real-world pressure, we should talk.
