IT Project Manager, Systems Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President of Technology Practices & Innovation provides executive leadership for the establishment and operation of core technical practice areas across the IT organization, including Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, Solution Services, and Innovation. This role leads practice leaders and teams to define standards, operating models, and capabilities that accelerate enterprise transformation.
Rather than owning solution delivery directly, this role builds and empowers high-performing practice organizations that equip IT and business teams to move faster with confidence. By balancing clear standards and guardrails with enablement and autonomy, this role ensures technology practices improve speed, quality, scalability, and reuse while cultivating technical capability and innovation both within and beyond IT.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Technology Practice Leadership & Operating Model- Provides executive leadership for enterprise-wide technology practice areas, leading a group of practice leaders and communities of practice.
- Defines the vision, scope, success measures, and operating model for each practice area in alignment with business strategy.
- Ensures standards, principles, and patterns are established, maintained, and adopted through teams.
- Holds practice leaders accountable for outcomes while enabling flexibility in how teams apply standards to meet business needs.
- Evolves IT from a delivery-centric organization to a capability and enablement-focused organization.
- Leads the architecture and engineering practices through designated leaders to ensure consistent, scalable, and intentional technology decisions.
- Ensures teams establish and maintain enterprise architecture principles, reference architectures, and design patterns.
- Sets expectations for modern engineering practices and ensures teams have the tools, skills, and guidance to apply them.
- Oversees architectural governance models that enable swift, high-quality decision-making rather than slowing delivery.
- Ensures alignment across architecture, engineering, infrastructure, security, and delivery teams.
- Provides leadership for the solution services practice, ensuring teams standardize approaches to discovery, requirements, and value definition.
- Ensures Solution Services teams are positioned to work closely with business partners, product teams, and delivery teams by providing the teams with the appropriate tools, training, and frameworks.
- Drives consistency in how opportunities are framed, problems are understood, and outcomes are measured.
- Enables solution service capability to scale beyond IT by establishing shared methods, training, and guardrails.
- Leads the innovation practice through teams responsible for experimentation, learning, and capability enablement.
- Ensures innovation activities are structured, intentional, and connected to real business opportunities.
- Establishes platforms, patterns, and self-service capabilities that allow innovation and technical work to occur safely outside of IT.
- Partners with business leaders to increase technical fluency and confidence across the organization.
- Ensures emerging technologies are evaluated and piloted through disciplined, team-led processes.
- Acts as an executive sponsor to evolve how technology work is structured, governed, and executed.
- Leads leaders and teams through shifts toward product-centric, platform-based, and agile ways of working.
- Ensures practice maturity translates into measurable improvements in speed, quality, risk reduction, and business outcomes.
- Communicates to executive leadership progress, tradeoffs, and impacts.
- Builds and leads a leadership team of practice owners and managers.
- Ensures clear role definitions, career paths, and skill expectations exist within each practice area.
- Invests in communities of practice that encourage collaboration, learning, and shared ownership.
- Develops future technical and people leaders through coaching, mentorship, and succession planning.
- Ensures practice standards align with enterprise security, risk, and compliance requirements.
- Partners with delivery, infrastructure, and security leaders to ensure cohesive execution across IT.
- Provides executive-level guidance on technology capability investments and tradeoffs.

- 15 years of progressive experience in senior technology leadership roles.
- Experience establishing and operating enterprise-wide technology practice areas (e.g. architecture, engineering, solution services, innovation) across multiple teams, portfolios, or business units.
- Demonstrated success building standards, operating models, and governance mechanisms that scale across large enterprises while still enabling speed and autonomy.
