We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Center Smart Hands Engineer to support our operations in Phoenix, AZ. This hands‑on role involves installing and maintaining cabling infrastructure, racking and stacking IT equipment, and providing onsite technical support to ensure optimal uptime and efficiency within the data center. The ideal candidate is proactive, technically skilled, and experienced in structured cabling and physical infrastructure support, with the ability to follow procedures and document work accurately.
Key Responsibilities Structured Cabling & Equipment Installation- Install, route, and secure copper and fiber optic cables following best practices and safety guidelines.
- Rack, stack, and cable servers, network switches, and other data center equipment.
- Ensure organized and labeled cabling for ease of maintenance and scalability.
- Run trunk cables and connect network devices as required.
- Patch fiber and copper jumpers based on diagrams, specifications, and customer requirements. Perform regular checks to ensure cable integrity and connectivity performance.
- Maintain detailed documentation of cable routes, device configurations, and infrastructure changes.
- Update data center diagrams, port maps, and inventory logs to reflect all modifications.
- Perform physical audits and assist in troubleshooting hardware connectivity or power issues. Support maintenance windows and hardware upgrades by executing prescribed procedures. Respond to service tickets in a timely manner and elevate complex issues appropriately.
- 1–3 years of hands‑on experience in a data center or IT infrastructure support role.
- Solid knowledge of structured cabling systems (Cat5e/6, fiber optics).
- Familiarity with industry standards (TIA/EIA, ANSI) and data center best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures precisely.
- Proficient in using basic testing tools (toners, cable testers) and cable management tools. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Relevant certifications (e.g., BICSI, CNet, CompTIA Server+, or similar) are a plus.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and physically demanding environments (bending, stooping, climbing ladders, etc.).
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks as required.
