Job Description Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (AVD / IaC) Position Overview

We are seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (AVD / IaC) with deep, hands‑on experience designing, implementing, and supporting Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and enterprise VDI platforms across hybrid environments. This is a delivery‑focused role, not advisory—the ideal candidate has personally built AVD environments from the ground up, supported them in production, and is comfortable providing direct, white‑glove support to end users.

This role is urgent and business‑critical, supporting the initial AVD deployment, validating scalability and stability, and driving user migration. The engineer will partner closely with Microsoft SMEs, internal infrastructure teams, and external vendors to ensure a successful rollout and long‑term operational success.

• Hands‑on implementation and operational support of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and enterprise VDI platforms
• Build, deploy, and support cloud‑based virtual desktop environments
• Client requires an engineer who will execute the work directly, not provide high‑level advisory
• Face‑to‑face, white‑glove end‑user support is required

• Stand up the initial AVD environment
• Validate performance, scalability, and reliability
• Support and execute user migrations
• Establish Infrastructure as Code (IaC) patterns for repeatable deployments
• Enable future AVD expansion across additional regions

This role combines Implementation Engineer + Support Engineer responsibilities.

Strong Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) experience, multiple AVD implementations strongly preferred, experience designing, architecting, and deploying AVD environments, enterprise VDI operational support experience, hands‑on administration of VMware Horizon VDI, Windows 365 / Cloud PC, comfortable providing direct, face‑to‑face end‑user support, strong communication skills and ability to partner with stakeholders, able to work onsite in Phoenix 2–4 days per week.

• Design, implement, optimize, and support AVD, VMware Horizon, and Windows 365
• Manage image lifecycle, gold images, capacity planning, and multi‑region deployments
• Engineer scalable, high‑availability VDI solutions aligned to enterprise SLAs
• Build infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (emphasis on build once, deploy repeatedly)
• Partner with Microsoft SMEs and internal architects to design and deploy the first AVD instance, test performance, scalability, and reliability, and resolve issues prior to broader rollout
• Lead or assist with user migration into AVD and building additional AVD instances in other regions, maintaining consistency across regions using standardized IaC patterns

• Administer vSphere / ESXi, compute, storage, and VM resources
• Support hybrid infrastructure across on‑prem and Azure
• Configure and support SAN/NAS, VLANs, DNS, DHCP
• Monitor performance, capacity, and availability across VDI platforms
• Troubleshoot complex issues (latency, login delays, profiles, VM performance) and perform root‑cause analysis using tools such as Azure Monitor, Control Up, vROps
• Apply Zero Trust principles, patching, and hardening standards
• Integrate AD, Entra , Group Policy, MFA, and Conditional Access
• Own lifecycle management of Windows Server, Windows 10/11, AVD host pools, Horizon, DR, backups, documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams
• Provide Tier‑3 support and contribute to ITIL processes

• Ownership of enterprise‑scale VDI environments
• Full‑stack VDI troubleshooting: VM → infrastructure → application
• General infrastructure support: server deployments, VM and application‑level troubleshooting, white‑glove support for ~400 Customer Service & Finance users and ~200 cloud VDI users
• Contribution to Azure cloud migration initiatives and long‑term VDI strategy
