Position OverviewThe Services Technician performs installation, modification, repair, testing and/or servicing on systems and communications equipment, including, but not limited to hardware and peripherals; software configuration; voice, video and data cabling systems; and networks. Incumbents service both internal Insight teammates and clients on site.
What you’ll do at Insight HardwarePerforms necessary hardware and peripheral repairs, identifies problems, determines cost‑effective solutions to keep customer downtime to a minimum, installs and tests system hardware at customer site, completes documentation for accurate billing, and processes defective products and parts according to warranty or contract terms. Identifies defective parts and orders replacements using vendor tools.
Video, Voice and Data Cabling SystemsProvides telephone support, resolves software configuration and hardware problems, identifies, pulls, terminates and labels Cat3, 5e, Cat6, Cat6A, coax and fiber optic cable, installs support structures and pathways, terminates workstation outlets and patch panels, performs fiber terminations, and assists with site surveys and bids.
NetworkingInstalls, tests, and configures network and data communication equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, VPN devices, and network operating systems. Provides server hardware support, troubleshooting, performance tuning, implements and supports Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, WINS, Microsoft server applications such as Exchange, SMS, IIS, RIS, and other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need to join InsightBachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a four‑year college or university, or 2 years related experience and/or training; LAN/WAN, PC, messaging and server software application experience required. Experience with cable plants, network services, email, bulletin boards, CD-ROM libraries. Ability to automate tasks using basic scripting. Remotely manage devices, perform testing, documentation, technical proficiency in microcomputer product areas. Familiarity with large account environments, major desktop operating systems (Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP).
Comfort with disassembling and reassembling units. Excellent troubleshooting, multitasking, organization, time‑management. Ability to respond to inquiries quickly. Knowledge of receiving, warehouse and safety procedures a plus. Valid forklift certification a plus.
