MITER Brands, also known as Milgard, MI Windows & Doors and PGTI, is one of the nation’s largest suppliers of vinyl windows and patio doors, with plants across the country.

This position will administer facility Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs in accordance with OSHA, ANSI, EPA, local/state/federal regulatory requirements and corporate policies, standards, procedures, and objectives. The role reports to site operational leaders (e.g., Plant Manager, Operations Director) with a dotted line to the Corporate EHS representative. The EHS Manager will promote proactive involvement within the facility for all EHS initiatives and business activities to increase health and safety awareness, participation, and accountability.

This role provides day-to-day tactical support, and also plans, develops, administers and manages safety policies, programs and training in partnership with the Leadership Team. The EHS Manager should have a strong EHS educational background and experience, including leadership roles in manufacturing or related industries.

• Order suspension of activities (Stop Work Authority) that pose threats to workers  health or safety.
• Assist operations and management in reviewing incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions; assist operations leaders as needed with corrective actions.
• Recommend measures to protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
• Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
• Be accountable for the safety of all team members for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.
• Manage and mentor the EHS Generalist and/or EHS Coordinators as internal resources on regulatory and safety policy issues; help develop documented procedures for compliance as required.
• Assist department managers, leaders, and team members with implementation of approaches to improve safety, minimize environmental footprint and liability, and implement EHS initiatives.
• Establish and maintain training programs for all levels of operation – New Hire Orientation, Forklift, First Aid/CPR, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP), Fall Protection, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Emergency Planning and more.
• Work with engineering in the design and installation of new or altered equipment or processes to eliminate or reduce health/safety hazards and environmental impact.
• Maintain compliance on key EHS-related initiatives, reporting requirements and auditing.
• Provide new employee health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations.
• Coordinate “right-to-know” programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.
• Participate in periodic hands-on safety audits of manufacturing work areas with plant operations leaders and assist in resolution of identified issues.
• Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies; ensure compliance with PPE use.
• Advise on elimination, substitution, engineering, administrative or PPE controls to eliminate hazards and reduce exposures when hazards cannot be eliminated.
• Make recommendations for hazard controls based on comprehensive analysis.
• Promote, guide and champion safety committees and serve as the Safety Committee’s Subject Matter Expert (SME).
• Develop training materials pertaining to safety issues as required by operations due to new or changing Federal or State regulations; provide training materials and deliver the training directly to all required employees.
• Lead and drive Risk Assessment and Behavioral Safety programs to eliminate/reduce environmental, health and safety risks and meet facility targets.
• Motivate and coach team members through effective communication and frequent performance feedback on the production floor.
