Overview
The Sickle Cell Community Specialist (SCCS) role supports community-based organizations (CBOs) addressing the needs of people living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and their caregivers. The role focuses on identifying gaps in education, access to care, and patient engagement, and aligning with local leadership to address patients and caregivers along the healthcare journey. This is a field-based, non-sales, non-promotional, community-facing position that serves as the primary liaison for SCD-related CBOs, advocacy groups, patients, and caregivers.
The SCCS reports to the U.S. Rare Disease National Patient Affairs Liaison Directors. All activities are conducted in collaboration with legal, compliance, and marketing colleagues to meet Pfizer’s standards of ethical conduct.
- Focus on three key areas:
Customer Engagement, CBO Account Management, and cross-functional collaboration to meet the needs of the SCD community, while leading people without positional authority. - Identify gaps and challenges faced by CBOs and convene cross-functional teams to support solutions for people living with SCD.
- Identify key stakeholders, CBO capabilities, and local market needs related to capacity building and patient needs.
- Develop trusted partnerships with leaders in the SCD community to support advocacy, education, and patient empowerment related to access to care.
- Understand local, regional, and national healthcare issues and best practices in the SCD space.
- Represent Pfizer at events and coordinate with internal SMEs (Medical, Corporate Affairs, ADMs, etc.) to share the work of National/Regional CBOs with the broader community.
- Capture and communicate insights from stakeholders to develop mutually beneficial action plans for Pfizer and the SCD community.
- Provide comprehensive overviews of patient support resources and programs to patients, caregivers, and CBOs at Pfizer-sponsored events (in-person and virtual).
- Identify opportunities to educate on SCD treatment importance and therapy optimization.
- Explore collaborative partnerships to broaden reach in disease education, access to care, and patient empowerment.
- Manage budgets to prioritize commitments that align with Pfizer and CBOs’ goals, maximizing strategic collaborations aligned to brand strategies.
- Collaborate with RD Managers to ensure integrated patient offerings align with objectives and local market dynamics.
- Prioritize Pfizer support for key CBOs to maximize impact for people living with SCD.
- Identify best practices and scale them regionally and nationally.
- Remain a local expert on evolving healthcare landscapes and market dynamics affecting SCD.
- Provide local insights to inform RD Brand Team on educational materials for patient engagement and support resources.
- Ensure all patient and advocacy group engagement is conducted with Pfizer’s standards of conduct and compliance.
- Manage annual budgets and conduct needs assessments with CBOs to align with Pfizer goals.
- Communicate insights on the changing competitive landscape within Rare Disease to cross-functional colleagues.
- Schedule and organize travel and prepare materials for local, regional, and national events.
- Maintain administrative responsibilities such as expense reporting, budget tracking, activity tracking, and calendar management.
- Maintain awareness of government and policy developments within Rare Disease communities at local, regional, and national levels.
- B.S. or B.A. degree required.
- Minimum 5–7 years of pharmaceutical industry or related experience, preferably in Rare Disease.
- Excellent communication, listening, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a highly regulated environment and comply with company guidelines.
- Proven track record of collaborating with diverse customers, clients, and stakeholders.
- Experience in responsible business practices and compassionate communication.
- Valid US driver’s license and driving record in compliance with company standards. Any DUI/DWI or impaired driving citation within the past 7 years may disqualify.
