Position: Caseworker I - Human Services Department

Overview

The City of Phoenix Human Services Department (HSD) enhances the health, wellness, and quality of life for Phoenix residents by providing a comprehensive array of services to help people meet emergency, short and long-term needs; and to help every individual reach their highest level of self-sufficiency. HSD offers a wide variety of programs for children, adults, and families at numerous locations throughout the city.

There are four Phoenix Families First Resource Centers (PFFRC) that serve as community hubs for targeted communities. The Family Resource Advocates/Case Worker I will develop relationships with families by coordinating parent and child activities; offering information and resources to families with children birth to five years old; and facilitating parent advisory committee meetings. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating early education programs;

working collaboratively to create and implement programming; conducting professional development; and conducting outreach to partners.

Salary and Benefits

Salary ranges:
Pay Range: $19.54 - $36.84 per hour. Hiring Range: $19.54 - $30.31 per hour.

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Internal Only: This is pay grade 345. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.

  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in social service programs.
  • Associate's degree in social work, sociology, social services, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Two or more years of experience working directly with families and children from birth to five years old.
  • Two or more years of experience coordinating and facilitating early childhood education programs.
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service to a diverse population.
  • Experience collaborating with community partners to provide programming that supports the population you serve.
  • Experience maintaining confidential client, case, or other records or files.
