The Director of WIC ensures the WIC Program operates according to state and federal requirements and is responsible for the smooth and efficient day-day operation of MPHC’s clinical facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Ensures the WIC Program operates according to state and federal requirements.
- Oversees management of the WIC Program at MPHC.
- Oversees WIC grant to ensure:
- Federal and State requirements are met.
- Deliverables are completed quarterly and annually.
- WIC Program integrity and MPHC policies are strictly adhered to.
- Takes part in budget planning and resources allocations of the budget.
- Participates in contract proposals, participate in WIC contract negotiations, and monitor compliance.
- Reviews monthly WIC expenses for allowability and accuracy; collaborates with Finance Department in submitting CERs to ADHS.
- Directs a growing staff of 75 plus employees adhering to MPHC policies and procedures.
- Develops, reviews and updates MPHC policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.
- Responsible for space planning and resource allocations.
- Collaborates with the management team and/or designated staff to complete MPHC self- assessments for staff and delegating to staff, as needed.
- Completes annual contract documents to provide WIC program services.
- Attends required meetings including the WIC Partner’s meeting, Nutrition/Breastfeeding Coordinators meeting, and WIC Directors meetings.
- Attends and facilitates monthly staff meetings and WIC clinic staff meetings.
- Implements and monitors caseload management strategies.
- Directs 3 WIC managers and one administrative assistant regarding responsibilities, resources, and scope of authority.
- Monitors operations ensuring adherence to workflow and continuous improvement.
- Provides leadership, direction, coaching, performance evaluation, and training to employees to ensure effective communication of MPHC policies and procedures, statutory requirements, and other position responsibilities.
- Collaborates with leadership to work towards continuous quality improvement.
- Ensures project deadlines and performance standards are met and monitors and approves expenditures.
- Oversees and participates in the development of MPHC nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion and support plan.
- Provides technical assistance and consultation to MPHC staff and other health professionals in nutrition services areas.
- Ensures the Master Contact List is updated when changes occur then communicates to stakeholders.
- Manages caseload distribution with an outreach plan, open access and appointment scheduling, and ensures waiting lists are sorted by priority.
- Follows up on all vendor complaints regarding participants sent by the state agency.
- Notifies the appropriate state agency of all claims of lost and/or stolen equipment.
- Ensures designated staff prepare and present an annual review/evaluation for each staff member.
- Is able to interact with internal staff as well as external contacts in a professional and respectful manner.
- Maintains regular and predictable performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in Nutrition (e.g., Community Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Education, Human Nutrition, or Nutrition Science) or a related field such as Home Economics or Biochemistry, with an emphasis in Nutritional Science. With prior approval from ADHS, number of years working in a WIC program may substitute for some years of education.
- Previous WIC and/or community health experience
- Preferred Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN).
- Preferred MBA or MA in Business.
- Experience leading teams of 75 employees or more.
- Experience with grant programs and or public health services.
