Overview

Are you an accomplished pediatric cardiac sonographer who is passionate about patient care and would like to join a vibrant, expanding team? At Banner Health, medical imaging is essential to providing top-notch patient care. Join us! You must be able to work in a dynamic, expanding, and fast-paced accredited pediatric echo lab as a registered pediatric cardiac sonographer. We offer services in multiple hospital campuses, including inpatient and outpatient settings, with satellite clinics and portable equipment.

Traveling and being flexible at short notice are requirements. You can choose from a variety of assignments depending on whether you live in the East or West Valley. Transthoracic echocardiograms must be performed for both adult and pediatric patients with basic to complex congenital heart disease. Use your understanding of cardiac physiology to ensure preliminary reports are detailed and important findings are communicated promptly.

Exams occur in acute hospital settings, such as operating rooms, cardiac catheter labs, emergency departments, NICUs, PICUs, and other inpatient units. There are opportunities to act as a preceptor for students or new employees, and to learn and perform fetal and transesophageal echocardiograms. Must be open to holiday and after-hours calls at various locations. Strong time management and communication skills are required.

Call bonuses and flexible shift options (4–10 hour shifts) are excellent incentives.

Required certifications: Reserved national certification from ARDMS or CCI

Preferred certifications: RVT for Vascular, RCS for Echo

You will work alongside 8 Physicians/APPs and a robust team of support staff.

The West Valley Float position is primarily based out of the Glendale clinic (main home location) with scheduled coverage at the Estrella clinic twice per week (Mondays and Wednesdays). Coverage rotates with a team of Sonographers across Glendale Clinic, Estrella Clinic, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Banner Del E Webb Medical Center, and Banner Estrella Medical Center.

Hours/Shift: This position starts with 5–8 hour shifts, Monday–Friday during training. After training, options include 5–8s or 4–10s.

Responsibilities
  • Performs echocardiograms on pediatric patients and adults with congenital heart disease using department-specific protocols. Ensure the patient is assessed appropriately for age.

  • Records, interrogates, quantifies, and measures normal and abnormal anatomy/physiology; produces high-quality images and prepares preliminary reports with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.

  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders; uses independent judgment per established policies and procedures.

  • Educates patients and families regarding procedures; demonstrates professional conduct and fosters teamwork, efficient resource use, and quality outcomes.

  • Demonstrates competence in assisting with invasive/interventional procedures as per established practices.

  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements; troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance; maintains a safe environment and adheres to safety policies.

  • Maintains ethical, legal, professional, and certification responsibilities, including confidentiality of all work information.

  • Ensures efficient department workflow; monitors and maintains adequate inventory to prevent service interruption; may perform other duties as assigned.

  • Independently performs prescribed procedures in accordance with policies and protocols for internal and external customers (medical imaging staff, patients, regulatory bodies, etc.).

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Requires national certification from ARDMS or CCI as RDCS-Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS-PE) or RCCS. Non-pediatric certified candidates must obtain pediatric certification within 12–18 months of hire, as approved by manager. BLS certification required.

    This position requires 1–2 years of clinical experience in pediatric cardiac sonography, with the ability to analyze data, solve problems, and communicate effectively.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience in an acute care setting as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer within the past 12 months is preferred.

    Additional related education/experience may be preferred.
