Banner University Medical Center invites applicants to join our Observation Unit as a Certified Patient Care Assistant. This role supports patients who do not require inpatient admission but need further diagnostic workup or therapeutic intervention beyond a standard emergency department visit.

Position Summary

The Certified Patient Care Assistant provides routine patient care to promote comfort, collects ongoing patient data, documents in the medical record, and supports efficient unit operations. Responsibilities include assistance with activities of daily living, specimen collection, reporting changes in health status, performing delegated procedures, clerical duties, and maintaining accurate patient records.

Core Functions
  • Assists in activities of daily living, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake.
  • Collects patient specimens and data (vital signs, input/output, other delegated measurements) and documents findings.
  • Recognizes abnormalities or changes in health status and reports to a licensed professional.
  • Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional (e.g., blood draws, Foley removal, EKGs, monitoring).
  • Reacts as a receptionist/clerical support, resolving customer problems and ensuring effective communication.
  • Maintains complete patient records, scans or files documents, and transcribes or processes physician orders.
  • Manages equipment and supplies, including requisition and tracking of patient  and computers.
  • Assists with patient transport, including pre‑operative and immediate post‑operative transfers to critical care and OR turnover.
  • Works under supervision, performs all functions per policies and regulatory requirements, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licensure in the state of practice.
    • Preferred:
      Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Criminal History Affidavit for certain behavioral health or home‑care positions.
    • Excellent organizational, human‑relations, and communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills.
    • Minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test (if required by department).
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
    • Recent healthcare experience.
    • Completion of an approved unit secretary program.
    • Any additional related education or experience.
