Banner University Medical Center Phoenix is a level 1 Trauma, Magnet, Teaching hospital. The main operating rooms have 24 suites that include 2 Hybrid, 2 DaVinci rooms and MIS rooms. Specialties make working Banner University Medical Center an exciting and diverse place to challenge yourself.

Senior Surgical Technologist – You will bring your experience and passion for health care to our Surgery department and also help support all other service lines if cases wrap up early for the day. This weekend shift (Friday‑Sunday) is paid at an increased shift premium of 30%.

  • Flat rate $5/hr for call, $3/hr weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable

Core Functions
  • Prepares for surgical procedures, pulls appropriate instruments and supplies, ensures good working order of instruments, reviews case carts, troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment, checks schedule and plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
  • Anticipates the surgeon's needs, passes instruments and retracts tissue, maintains competency to scrub in a minimum of two surgical specialties.
  • Demonstrates principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions, disposes of sharps and trash, places used supplies into case cart for processing, participates in counting sharps, instruments and sponges, prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
  • Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
  • Assists with OR turnover between cases, participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
  • Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned.
  • May provide business support to the department including administrative tasks.
  • Follows safety procedures regarding medication labeling, specimen handling, sharps handling, time‑out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments. Participates in emergency call rotation. Provides proficiency in at least two surgical specialties. Internal customers: patients, surgeons, nursing staff. External customers may include physicians, patient families and vendors or sales reps.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED and current basic life support certification.
  • Certified as a surgical technologist OR two to three years of experience in a surgical technologist role. Must be registered with State Regulatory Agency where applicable.
  • Must be able to scrub proficiently on a minimum of two surgical specialties.
  • Requires manual dexterity, professional decorum, responsiveness in stressful emergent situations, organization, and ability to stay abreast of new developments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology is highly preferred.
