Position Summary:

This position performs a variety of technical functions and duties to provide availability of supplies and equipment and maintains sterile field for operating procedures.

Position Duties
  • Assist to perform room turnovers in accordance with established procedures and department requirements/standards as part of procedural team.
  • Participate in a variety of surgical cases by assisting surgeons at the surgical field.
  • Prepare and set up operating room for surgical procedures and organize sterile areas, instruments, and equipment in accordance with established procedure, department, and physician requirements and standards.
  • Handle and care for specific instrumentation to prevent breakage and damage.
  • Review requirements of patient, physician, and procedure idiosyncrasies to assess setup, equipment, and supply needs.
  • Communicate with procedural team to provide for thorough preparedness.
  • Seek guidance from appropriate source for performing or assisting with procedures as needed based on level of personal expertise.
  • Handle and label all specimens.
  • Suggest and assist in updating and maintaining physician preference cards.
  • Participate in re‑stocking, re‑supplying, and cleaning of all operating rooms, specialty carts, and sterile core to provide for efficient, effective, and safe department operations.
  • Serve as preceptor to students and orient regarding functions, duties, and role of Surgical Technician.
  • Perform miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Surgical Technician program or equivalent combination of post‑secondary education and experience.

Experience:

  • One year Surgical Technician experience in a surgery setting.
  • Experience with pediatric patient populations (preferred).

Special

Skills:

  • Current BLS certification.
