Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Trainer prepares and facilitates training for new hire and existing employee training in the clinical laboratory, with guidance from training leadership. The role supports Exact Sciences Laboratories through subject matter and training expertise to ensure all team members are trained properly and competencies are successfully met. It assists in maintaining accurate data reporting practices, keeps employees of multiple levels up‑to‑date on processes and procedures through training and editing training materials/assessments/competencies, and completes moderate and/or high‑complexity competency/end‑user proficiency assessments for learners, filing training documentation appropriately.

The role provides on‑shift training as needed and acts as a mentor for entry‑level trainers.

Essential Duties
  • Delivers training through in‑person training, virtual training, hands‑on/on‑the‑job training, virtual training, and other modalities as needed.
  • Identifies and adapts training/facilitation style to meet learner needs in the moment.
  • Facilitates small or large group learning sessions.
  • Administers learning exams and/or competency direct observations.
  • Assists in creation, edit, and maintenance of training and competency materials.
  • Maintains competency in assigned test processes in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Performs pre‑analytic, analytical, and/or post‑analytical tasks in the laboratories as assigned.
  • Stays informed and up‑to‑date on new/edited SOPs, assignments, and changes in the laboratory processes in which they train.
  • Participates in team projects as assigned.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of training through surveys, observations, and feedback.
  • Maintains accurate records of training and competency in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with other trainers cross‑functionally.
  • Completes team administrative duties as assigned.
  • Motivates and inspires learners to do their best work through coaching.
  • Leads and motivates peers through positive influence.
  • Supports employee engagement initiatives.
  • Upholds company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Supports and complies with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  • Works designated schedule; nights, weekends, overtime as assigned.
  • Works on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and performs typing for up to 50% of a typical working day.
  • Works seated for approximately 20% of a typical working day; standing for approximately 80%.
  • Lifts up to 40 pounds for up to 25% of a typical working day.
  • Grasps with both hands; pinches with thumb and forefinger; turns with hand/arm; reaches above shoulder height.
  • Complies with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Uses various types of laboratory equipment; microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods.
  • Performs repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Uses near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high‑speed centrifugation.
  • Travels between local Exact Sciences Madison locations; up to 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
  • Works 100% of the time onsite at assigned laboratory location.
  • If required, completes an assessment showing understanding of Exact Sciences Epic processes with a score of 80% or higher. Reasonable accommodation will be made if necessary for disability compliance.
