Position SummaryThe Pediatric Dietitian II (PD II) is a registered dietitian/nutritionist who is competent in general and specialized pediatric nutrition and holds an advanced degree or a practice‑related board certification. The PD II uses evidence‑based knowledge to formulate a nutrition care plan, is competent in current medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for pediatrics, participates in nutrition care decisions that lead to positive outcomes and is an effective educator.
The PD II demonstrates concentrated knowledge/experience in one or more pediatric nutrition sub‑specialties, shows initiative in solving routine problems in the work environment, can self‑manage daily duties, prioritizes workload, delivers nutrition care to assigned patients, and advocates for nutrition care needs for the patient/family. The position receives oversight by the Manager, Clinical Nutrition Services.
- Provides nutrition care to assigned patients/families of general and specialized pediatric nutritional conditions/disorders, ages and developmental stages; contributes to patient care decisions by using critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Assesses nutritional needs, develops and implements an effective MNT plan of care, recommends and implements interventions, and monitors/evaluates outcomes in a timely manner, following Phoenix Children’s standards of care and evidence‑based practice guidelines.
- Selects appropriate feeding modality and accurately calculates nutritional needs; modifies the nutrition plan of care as findings warrant.
- Assumes a proactive role with patient/family education, identifying preferred learning style and selecting tools and materials to facilitate learning.
- Documents nutrition care plans and recommendations accurately and concisely, ensuring timely availability for interdisciplinary care.
- Participates in teaching and patient rounds, contributing information to the interdisciplinary team.
- Serves as liaison between the health‑care team and family, understanding and responding to age‑specific cues and caregiver feedback.
- Performs patient‑care duties under routine supervision, addressing problems encountered within the assigned area; recognizes limits of knowledge and seeks assistance when needed.
- Provides nutrition education to the interdisciplinary health‑care team and community; participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives, safety, research, education and mentoring.
- Demonstrates understanding of quality and performance improvement principles; supports change that enhances care and patient experience.

- Education
:
Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics and supervised practice experience;
Master’s degree (MS, MPH, MEd) unless certified in a practice‑applicable specialty (CSP, CNSC, CDE). - Experience
:
Two or more years of practice experience; experience in a health‑care/hospital environment using current MNT for hospitalized patients (TPN, infant/enteral formulas, critical care, GI disorders, cardiac, diabetes, renal, pulmonary, cystic fibrosis, prematurity, weight management). - Specialty
:
Pediatric experience; board certification or credential related to pediatric nutrition preferred. - Skills
:
Strong verbal, non‑verbal and written communication; flexibility with scheduled days, participation in on‑call/ weekend rotation; bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred. - Licensing
:
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D. or R.D.N.) credential recognized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. - Physical Requirements
:
Reasonable physical abilities (lifting, reaching, standing, walking); exposure to medical and laboratory environments.
