Acute Clinical Staff Pharmacist at Banner Health – Phoenix, Arizona. This full‑time, day‑shift position supports our Pharmacy‑Hosp department in providing safe, high‑quality pharmaceutical care to patients in acute and ambulatory care settings.
Position SummaryThis role is responsible for delivering pharmaceutical care using the medication use process, documenting all components of care, overseeing pharmacy technicians and interns, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Core Functions- Processes medication orders and evaluates their appropriateness and completeness with respect to patient data including age, height, weight, diagnosis, laboratory values, and other pertinent information.
- Utilizes clinical pharmacy skills to assess patient medication regimens, formulates recommendations for optimal safety, efficacy, and cost‑effectiveness, contacts prescribers with suggestions, and resolves problems with medication orders.
- Serves as a resource for patients and the health‑care team, providing requested medication information in a timely manner.
- Complies with directives of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee/Clinical Consensus Group and documents activities related to patient care in the electronic medical record.
- Drives professional development through BPS educational resources and assists with training and onboarding of new staff.
- Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile or non‑sterile compounded medications, in an accurate and timely manner in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Oversees day‑to‑day operations of the pharmacy, including management of technology, inventory, accurate record‑keeping, and supervises pharmacy technicians, interns, and students.
Unrestricted pharmacists licensure in the state of practice and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Arizona residents must provide an AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire. Licensure must be completed within 90 days of hire unless delayed by the State Board of Pharmacy. Banner Registry and Travel positions require a current and unrestricted pharmacist license and a minimum of one year of acute‑care hospital experience, including work in the specialty area during the past 12 months.
Candidates must possess strong organizational, problem‑solving, computer, written and verbal communication skills, and knowledge of medication management information system software, Microsoft applications, and automated dispensing systems. A valid driver’s license may be required for coverage. Employees in Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must have an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and a signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit.
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy residency program or previous clinical pharmacy experience.
- Previous hospital experience.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
