Position Summary

This position provides Occupational Therapy services, under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, to a pediatric population, from infant through adolescence/young adulthood. Performs treatment in activities of daily living, sensorimotor integration, cognitive, neurodevelopmental, and psychosocial skill, and feeding therapy, specific to age and developmental/functional level determined by assessment of the supervising Occupational Therapist.

Position Duties
  • Promotes and maintains health by providing Occupational Therapy services under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist. Contributes to the Occupational Therapist’s effectiveness by reviewing evaluations and test results, implementing the plan of care, identifying patient care issues, providing information and feedback, and recommending options and courses of action. Monitors patient health by interviewing patients/families and reviewing patient history. Works closely with the supervising Occupational Therapist and provides treatment according to the plan of care.

    Communicates immediately when patient shows changes that may require re-evaluation. Treats patients with a wide range of diagnoses including but not limited to neurological, sensorimotor, musculoskeletal disorders/delays, complex medical conditions, and trauma. Uses pediatric-based behavior management strategies and matches therapeutic interventions to the age/ability of the child, within a family-centered care framework. Implements the patient’s plan of care using modalities such as exercise, splinting, taping, heat/cold, electrical stimulation, massage, ultrasound, as prescribed by a physician.

    Provides education in the use of dynamic medical equipment to maximize function. Performs patient/family teaching for maximizing function within the home/community and the home program. Maintains mutual agreement upon discussion with family/guardian. Provides care under the direct supervision of an OT in accordance with the Standards of Care in the AOTA and Phoenix Children’s Policies & Procedures Manual.
  • Maintains appropriate and timely documentation in compliance with Joint Commission, state/federal guidelines, and CARF standards; participates in Total Quality Management. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and infection-control policies and procedures.
  • Organizes, coordinates, and collaborates with other disciplines within the hospital and with community resources to maximize value and effectiveness of the plan of care. Builds and maintains rapport within the department, hospital, and community, while interacting professionally with physicians, families, and hospital/community personnel. Participates in in-service training programs. Supervises Rehab Technician and contributes to performance evaluations. Maintains ongoing professional development through continuing education.

    Seeks opportunities to enhance occupational therapy services and the hospital’s reputation.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Required

Experience

  • Pediatric experience. Preferred

Special Skills

  • Specialty training in pediatric ortho, neuro, NDT, taping, child development, or other relevant pediatric areas. Preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Current NBCOT certification prior to start date. Required
  • Current State of Arizona Occupational Therapist Assistant license prior to start date. Required
  • Current AZ DPS fingerprint clearance card prior to start date. Required
  • Current BLS Certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association prior to start date. Required
