This position facilitates and administers respiratory care, including routine and complex procedures, using a wide variety of techniques and equipment. The role ensures care meets quality standards established by the hospital, department, and regulatory agencies and maintains all required skills to provide safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate care to patients from neonate to adolescent. The respiratory therapist also participates in executing quality improvement initiatives.
PositionDuties
- Safely perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established standards, procedural guidelines, and policies; apply knowledge of respiratory interventions and related equipment, complete competency validations, and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
- Interact with patients, families, and the health‑care team by explaining care modalities in an understandable manner and maintaining a positive customer‑relations attitude.
- Accurately interpret and communicate patient data; provide thorough clinical status reports using effective communication methods.
- Assess patients’ clinical status, evaluate progress toward goals, and recommend courses of action based on literature, best practices, and available evidence.
- Analyze critical situations and apply appropriate judgment and critical thinking for problem resolution; communicate safety concerns and improvement opportunities and complete occurrence reports as appropriate.
- Continuously improve by pursuing learning opportunities, attending educational offerings and departmental meetings, and staying up‑to‑date with advances related to respiratory care.
- Work effectively in a team‑based environment, especially during stressful situations involving quickly changing priorities; display leadership skills to instill trust and credibility; intervene appropriately in urgent and emergent situations; actively engage in patient‑care planning with the health‑care team.
- Manage multiple priorities and apply effective time‑management skills; ensure timely and accurate patient‑care and billing documentation; communicate assignment changes promptly; maintain an acceptable level of productivity.
- Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
- Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapist Program.
- Minimum of one year of post‑graduation respiratory care experience.
- Post‑graduation experience in a hospital environment (preferred).
- Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association.
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the NBRC.
- Current State of Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) membership (preferred).
- Current PALS certification (preferred).
- Basic Life Support – Required
