Position: Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison (Mountain West)

Amicus Therapeutics is a global, patient-dedicated biotechnology company focused on discovering, developing, and delivering high-quality medicines for people living with rare metabolic diseases.

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will be responsible for engaging with national and regional Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) within their assigned geography. The KOLs of focus will primarily be those in the field of Lysosomal Disorders with an emphasis on those with a specialty in Fabry and Pompe Disease. The MSL will be involved in fair balanced clinical and medical information exchange on a peer-to-peer basis with KOLs via scientific exchange.

Amicus MSLs must be well-versed in FDA regulations, PhRMA code, OIG and AACME compliance, and always operate in a compliant manner while pursuing his/her medical objectives. The MSL will lead and support Amicus’ activities in their region, for example, collecting and reporting field-based clinical/medical insights back that impact the future strategy so Amicus can continue to bring innovative medicines to patients with rare diseases.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Systematically identify and develop new and existing scientific collaborations. Also, engage in fair and balanced scientific exchange with external health care providers, investigators, and researchers within a defined geography.
  • Serve as the primary Amicus external medical affairs representative for all key stakeholders, providing deep and advanced disease state and product information as well as facilitating collaborations aligning with Amicus’ strategic goals
  • Support new and ongoing clinical trial execution as needed
  • Consistently collect and report medical insights and unanswered questions from external contacts to the appropriate channels internally.
  • Understand and effectively communicate scientific knowledge. Establish oneself as a reliable trusted resource of accurate up-to-date medical and scientific knowledge requested by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support internal departmental training meetings (i.e., sales team training)
  • Build and maintain technical and clinical expertise across therapeutic areas to engage in deep scientific discussions
  • Engage in continuous learning within the therapeutic area(s). Attend scientific meetings, conduct routine literature searches, and communicate regularly with internal colleagues to assure benefit from relevant individual learnings.   • Promptly respond to medical inquiries with any available information which may include reprints, posters, medical letters, literature citations, access to internal and external experts, slides, and other related materials in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Facilitate educational grant request process and facilitate Investigator Initiated Study (IIS) inquiries/proposals which are aligned with internal areas of scientific interest.
  • Partner and collaborate with Amicus Patient and Professional Advocacy (P&A) in developing and maintaining partnerships with advocacy groups across therapeutic areas.
  • Attend appropriate scientific conferences and meetings to attend sessions, support medical booth and engage in HCP meetings. MSLs will also gather medical insights and CIs as needed.
  • Lead or engage in medically driven advice seeking activities such as advisory board meetings and regional scientific/medical discussions.
  • Support projects when needed based on the company’s needs and under the management’s direction.
  • Understand and consistently demonstrate compliant rules of engagement with both internal and external stakeholders. Seek clarification from management and/or Compliance & Legal as needed.
  • Fulfills administrative, procedural, and legal requirements to address customer needs in alignment with SOPs. Activities may include proficiency in computer skills, data entry, and best practice sharing of available resources.
