Position: Supervisory Detention and Deportation Officer (Assistant Field Office Director)

Duties

  • Provide assistance in adjudicating applications for Stays of Deportation, and ascertain that all decisions based upon the appropriate exercise of discretion fall within policy guidelines, meet the requirement of previous precedent decisions, and are defensible upon appeal to the courts.
  • Perform the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised.

  • Serve as a technical expert and liaison in developing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders in the Federal government.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate briefings and information exchange opportunities.
Requirements
  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.

  • Requirements by Closing Date:

  • Time in Grade:
    Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the Federal service. Time in grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Probationary Period:
    This is a full‑time permanent position (Career/Career‑Conditional appointment). Upon appointment, you may be required to serve a one‑year probationary period.
  • Mobility Agreement:
    You will be required to sign a Mobility Agreement as mobility is a factor in this occupation. You may be reassigned to a new location during your career based on the needs of the service.
Qualifications
  • You qualify for the GS‑14 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS‑13 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
    • Serving as an expert for enforcement and removal activity and operations throughout the agency;
    • Applying a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of complex enforcement and deportation management processes and systems;
    • Developing and implementing enforcement and deportation policies and procedures within the agency.
Additional Information

Motor Vehicle Operation
:
This position requires a valid state driver’s license and the ability to operate an automobile.

Firearm Requirement
:
This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Candidates convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not qualified for this position.

Education
:
This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
