Job Description & How to Apply Below
Title: Chief Financial Officer
Location: Phoenix, AZ
This Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key strategic partner to the owner of a growing construction-focused organization. The role requires a hands‑on finance leader who can execute daily financial operations and help guide long‑term strategy. This is not a ceremonial executive position; this leader must actively own the numbers, strengthen internal controls, and bring disciplined financial oversight to support continued growth.
YourRole
- Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, cash flow management, and profitability analysis.
- Establish and enforce strong financial controls and approval processes to prevent fraud and ensure accountability.
- Partner directly with the owner to evaluate financial decisions, investments, and growth initiatives.
- Provide clear, data‑driven recommendations and confidently push back when financial risk outweighs opportunity.
- Oversee the controller and future accounting hires while remaining hands‑on in core financial functions.
- Collaborate with the external accounting firm to ensure compliance, tax strategy, and accurate reporting.
- Develop financial models and long‑term planning strategies that support sustainable expansion.
- Monitor profitability and performance metrics, aligning incentive structures with company results.
- Create transparency across the organization through clear communication and honest reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; advanced credentials are welcome.
- 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within small to mid‑sized businesses.
- Proven ability to build and enforce internal controls and safeguard company assets.
- Experience supporting acquisitions and integrating financial processes across entities.
- Strong operational knowledge with willingness to execute detailed financial work when needed.
- Background in construction or related project‑based industries preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with strong ownership personalities and provide direct, candid feedback.
- High integrity with a track record of transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership.
- Comfortable in a hands‑on, no‑drama environment focused on results and growth.
- Interest in contributing to a collaborative culture while maintaining executive‑level discipline.
- Experience in construction accounting or job‑costing environments.
- Prior experience working directly with family‑owned or founder‑led business is preferred.
