Job Description
The Arizona State Retirement System is seeking a proactive individual with work experience in pension-related calculations to fill one vacancy on the Tier 2 team in Member Benefits.
- Tentative start date will be dependent upon interviews conducted, onboarding completed, and the state agency issuing a PO.
- Hire Right must be used for Background Checks and Drug Screenings.
- Local Only Candidates:
Resumes must specify current location. Candidates must be local at time of submission and available for in-person interviews within 1 week of posting close date. Candidates must also be able to start within 2 weeks of an offer being made.
Position will be remote but will need to come into the office as needed.
DUTIES INCLUDE- Accurately perform complex benefit calculations including:
- Retirement and survivor benefits
- Actuarial present value
- Lump sum payments
- Qualified Domestic Relations Orders
- Pension account maintenance
- Utilize various computer programs and databases to retrieve and analyze financial transactions.
- Evaluate and interpret reporting systems, procedures, policies, and methods.
- Research, analyze, and verify information relating to benefit payments, 1099
Rs, and member accounts following statute and legal determinations. - Apply Internal Revenue Service regulations on payouts and reporting.
- Ensure the accuracy of data in the disbursement system.
- Calculate and prepare requests for payments outside the disbursement system.
- Contact members, beneficiaries, employers, and related parties via phone and correspondence.
- Review documents for authenticity and completeness.
- Maintain data integrity within ASRS databases.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of automated financial/disbursement systems and databases.
- Knowledge of statutes, policies, and procedures, and information systems pertaining to ASRS.
- Knowledge of IRS regulations regarding payments and reporting of annuities and lump-sum disbursements.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to process a high volume of varying calculations and meet multiple deadlines with accuracy.
- Strong computer skills with emphasis on Excel and relational databases.
- Ability to recognize inefficiencies and contribute ideas toward improving processes.
- Prefer six months’ experience performing audits, pensions, or similar financial transactions.
- Prefer six months’ experience making adjustments to individual account balances.
- Prefer Associate’s degree with an emphasis in math.
- Analytical
Skills:
Strong mathematical and problem‑solving abilities for high-volume work. - Works well within strict guidelines.
- Technical Proficiency:
Advanced skills in Excel and relational databases.
- Financial Institution or Bank Experience.
