Construction Accountant- West Phoenix

Overview

Vaco Phoenix is seeking an experienced Construction Accountant for a leading nonprofit organization in West Phoenix, AZ. This role is responsible for recording financial transactions, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing financial reports, and performing CIP reconciliations. This is a fully onsite contract position with the potential to convert to a permanent role. Compensation is up to $35 per hour, depending on experience.

• Record and reconcile Construction in Progress (CIP), including labor allocations, accruals, and closing entries.
• Manage grant accounting, including billing, reimbursements, tracking expenditures/income, class codes, and documentation.
• Reconcile grant expenditures to income and track forgivable-debt grants.
• Prepare general ledger reconciliations, audit schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Provide grant expenditure reports and maintain grant files.
• Assist with escrow reviews, property tax payments, and land acquisition records.
• Support the CFO with financial statement review and research.
• Maintain audit worksheets and documented procedures.

• Knowledge of cost accounting and/or construction industry is a plus
• Knowledge of loan servicing is a plus
• Self-motivated and resourceful
• Strong attention to detail and ability to check and reconcile work
• Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills
