The Controller role will play a critical role in managing and overseeing the accounting, financial reporting, and internal control functions of the family office and affiliated entities (trusts and investment vehicles). Role is part time. Approx 25 hours a week.
Responsibilities- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the family office and related entities.
- Accounting Operations
- Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and cash management.
- Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions and capital flows between trusts, foundations, and investment vehicles.
- Investment Accounting
- Track capital calls and distributions for private equity, hedge funds, venture capital, and direct investments.
- Reconcile brokerage and custodian statements monthly.
- Coordinate with investment advisers and custodians on performance reporting.
- Tax Coordination
- Work closely with external CPA firm to ensure timely preparation and filing of trust, partnership, foundation, and personal tax returns.
- Track K-1s and other investment-related tax documentation.
- Treasury & Cash Management
- Manage liquidity across bank and investment accounts.
- Forecast cash needs, schedule fund transfers and ensure proper funding of obligations (e.g., distributions, expenses, philanthropy).
- Controls & Compliance
- Develop and implement internal controls and accounting policies.
- Maintain documentation related to trust agreements, insurance policies, entity formations, and governance documents.
- Ensure compliance with fiduciary, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage accounting systems (Quickbooks) and reporting tools (Excel).
- Administrative Support
- Coordinate with family members, legal counsel, and wealth advisers on ad hoc requests.
- Manage or liaise on insurance, property management, payroll for household or office staff, and personal expense tracking.
CPA a plus. Experience with a Private Equity firm, family office, tax or complex entities.
