Summary

At APS, our Grant Accountants play a vital role in ensuring financial integrity and compliance for grant-funded projects. This position supports our mission by delivering accurate reporting and maintaining strong fiscal controls that enable impactful programs and initiatives.

What your day would be like

You are responsible for:

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports in alignment with professional accounting standards.
  • Manage complex accounting activities
    , including cost distribution and system maintenance for grant-related accounts.
  • Resolve advanced financial issues with broad scope and high impact, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with senior staff and management
    , providing insights and recommendations on grant budgets and expenditures.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all accounting practices.

Who we’re looking for

  • Experienced Accountant with strong knowledge of GAAP and grant accounting principles.

  • Detail-oriented professional with expertise in preparing accurate reports and maintaining robust systems.
  • Collaborative communicator who can work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive and adaptable

  • BS degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • And three (3) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA, MS in Accounting and/or CPA certification preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal controls.
  • Strong analytical, research and problem solving skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer spreadsheet and word processing software programs (Microsoft Office).
Major Accountabilities

1) Prepares and maintains financial statements, billings, supporting schedules, and reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and relevant regulations.

2) Monitors and reconciles general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions.

3) Reviews and analyzes financial data to identify discrepancies, prepare adjusting entries, and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.

4) Manages financial activities related to grant funding, including monitoring expenditures, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and preparing financial reports for grant audits.

5) Prepares and maintains documentation to support federal audits of grant-funded expenditures, including billing, advances, and correspondence.

6) Oversees the preparation, submission, and archiving of federal-mandated financial reports and grant-related documentation.

7) Identifies opportunities for process improvement and contributes to the development and implementation of more efficient accounting and grants management procedures.

8) Prepares monthly expenditure breakdown report with allocations to various grants as applicable.
