Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Transit Planning Intern for employment in our Phoenix, AZ office.
This internship provides hands‑on experience that complements academic learning and supports the transition into a professional setting. Interns gain well-rounded experience through project tasks and exposure to multiple phases of transit projects, including analysis, public engagement, and plan development.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:- Conducting research, data reviews, and basic analysis to inform transportation decision-making and determine potential environmental effects
- Supporting review and comparison of relevant studies to help ensure general compliance with local, state, and federal guidance, standard procedures, and client expectations
- Collecting technical and statistical data and assisting with the preparation of reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, and the natural environment
- Assisting with GIS mapping and analysis related to demographics, socioeconomics, land use, environmental factors, travel behavior, and transportation demand
- Developing maps, charts, and figures using graphical and analytical tools such as GIS software, Adobe products, Excel, and Power Point
- Assist with the preparation of comprehensive plans, transportation reports or technical memorandums
- Demonstrating good verbal and written communication skills
- Working in a collaborative, fast-paced team environment
- Assisting with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers
Minimum Requirements
- Candidate must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Planning, Geography, Transportation, Engineering, Geographic Science or related fields
- Coursework and/or academic project experience in transit/transportation planning, GIS, and data analysis
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Basic knowledge with GIS tools, such as Arc Map, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Google Earth, and/or other geographic software
- Experience in preparing graphics and visuals using design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (examples include Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Photoshop)
- Interest in transit or transportation planning
- Strong attention to details and willingness to learn
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team - Strong organizational, technical and communication skills.
- Experience using transit as a passenger.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
