TSMC Arizona is seeking a Gas and Chemical System Design Engineer to join our New Fab Design Department in creating the next generation of advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities, located in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. As a Gas and Chemical System Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing cutting‑edge systems while embodying our core values of Integrity, Commitment, Innovation, and Customer Trust.
In this role, you will demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, reliability, and enthusiasm. You will be responsible for delivering world‑class facility system designs to support our state‑of‑the‑art semiconductor fabrication facilities. These systems are built to operate 24/7, 365 days a year, meeting the highest standards of safety, quality, and reliability—exemplified by the design, construction, and operation of our facilities.
Responsibilities- System Design: Design cutting‑edge gas, chemical, and slurry supply systems tailored to fab requirements, ensuring safety and reliability.
- Engineering Input: Analyze equipment specifications, engineering drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, BOMs, and other design‑related documents to validate performance, accuracy, and compliance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IFC, IBC, NFPA, SEMI, ASME).
- 3D BIM Coordination: Oversee the development and integration of facility 3D BIM models to optimize system constructability and spatial utilization.

Collaboration:
Collaborate with external stakeholders (contractors, vendors, AHJs, engineers of records) and internal teams (facility operations, fab construction/design, procurement) to ensure satisfaction and alignment on design requirements. - Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to refine system designs, enhance efficiency, and implement change management strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of fluid control, supply, and distribution systems including piping, valves, PLCs, tanks, regulators, sensors, filters, piping connections, etc.
- Hands‑on experience in a plant or facilities environment.
- Ability to read P&IDs, PFDs, and understanding of gas/chemical supply systems, equipment operating principles, and fundamental operational skills.
- Proficiency in design and documentation tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
- 3+ years of experience in the facilities semiconductor industry or related industries (e.g., oil & gas, chemical processing, mission‑critical facilities, aerospace).
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
- Familiarity with permitting of systems with AHJ (authority having jurisdiction).
- Experience designing process systems containing hazardous chemicals and gases.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to critically evaluate systems against fundamental principles.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with a focus on creating innovative, win‑win solutions.
- Collaborative team player capable of working effectively in high‑paced environments and adapting quickly to changing priorities.
- Proactive, detail‑oriented, and committed to achieving excellence in system design and project execution.
- May be required to survey and physically visit active construction sites.
- Applicant is expected to be willing and able to work in a manufacturing facility or chemical processing facility environment.
