The Planning & Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows, and needs arise. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances.
PDD currently has Planner II vacancy in the Site Planning section.
Planners II are responsible for major planning functions or projects requiring combinations of skill in research, analysis, development, presentation, or interpretation of concepts and data pertaining to planning and implementation of plans. Tasks will be assigned based on the business operations of the division.
A planner II specializing in Site Planning is typically assigned to an interdisciplinary development team. Responsibilities include reviewing plans for code compliance, providing assistance to developers, and coordinating with other disciplines to ensure that stipulations are implemented. Site Planners II's attend development meetings, are well-versed in the Zoning Ordinance, and have developed a general knowledge of all disciplines in the development process.
They negotiate with developers and other departments, implementing stipulations established through public hearing processes. They have a high degree of contact with developers and the public and develop long term relationships with developers due to long term project assignments and repeat submissions. Site Planners II have a significant amount of autonomy in making recommendations and negotiating with developers.
Site Planner II requires an understanding of many City codes and ordinances, including the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance, and a general knowledge the City's development process and submittal requirements. Tasks include organizing with developers and other departments to implement stipulations established through public hearing processes. Will require the ability to perform role with a significant amount of autonomy in making project decisions.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
* Knowledge of zoning ordinances, State and Local codes, and all disciplines in the development process.
* Understanding of city of Phoenix development review and permitting process
* Proficient written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to diverse audiences.
* Ability to attend public meetings.
SALARY
Pay Range: $69,492.80 to $ annually.
Hiring Range: $69,492.80 to $97,780.80 annually.

* Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only:
Please understand that this is pay grade 063. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
* Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
* Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
* Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
* When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.
