Responsibilities

The Southwest Regional Business Class (BC) Lead for Dams, Levees and Civil Works (DLCW) is responsible for the direction, coordination and quality of work for the dam, levee, civil works and flood risk management projects in the Southwest operating region of HDR.

Key duties include:

  • Coordinate, facilitate and provide risk management for large‑scale multi‑discipline and multi‑benefit projects with a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Build and maintain client and area BC relationships and participate in project development and contract documentation.
  • Mentor mid‑ and junior‑level staff across a variety of disciplines to facilitate growth and quality project delivery in the region.
  • Provide oversight to a variety of project types, including planning, design, inspection and construction management of interior drainage and riverine flood risk management projects, dams and reservoirs, ecosystem restoration, drainage and general site civil of major water management infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with related disciplines (hydrology, hydraulics, structural, geology, geotechnical, civil, mechanical, CADD and GIS) and with HDR’s other regional and corporate BC technical leads and advisors.
  • Reinforce the Quality Management Program (QMP) and participate in staff training as needed.
  • Participate in corporate management of the DLCWs program, perform technical and quality reviews of projects outside your geographic area, and coordinate with regional operations management and corporate business class leadership.
  • Review work scopes, work products, SOWs, contracts and project pricing in collaboration with HDR legal, project managers, business group managers and area managers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • MS in civil, environmental or water resources engineering (preferred)
  • 15 years related experience
  • Experience as a task lead and/or project manager in a consulting business (preferred)
  • Self‑starter, highly motivated, team oriented
  • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills; ability to assimilate data and see the big picture
  • Extensive experience designing and directing large complex multi‑discipline projects
  • Construction or construction administration experience for dam and levee projects
  • Strong technical writing abilities, solid engineering background and effective presentation skills
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years experience in related field
  • Professional or Engineering registration with related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Collaborates with other BC regional directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Actively participates in employee‑owned culture
